ElemenoP 60 Posted June 20, 2012 Currently, the health setup in DayZ is a little...wonky. Using the 12k blood as a general global health system makes sense in some ways, but not in others.I propose a system based on both Blood, Bones, and Pain to manage the status of players.Blood: like the current system, only change the unit to Liters. Average human has 4.7 liters of blood in their body. For ease of measurement, lets start everyone with 5 liters. (Imagine 5L equaling roughly 15000 blood)Blacking Out Can commonly occur after losing more than 1/3rd of your blood. Once you're below 3 liters you can begin to pass out.Rapid blood loss can also induce loss of consciousness.IncapacitationThe average adult can usually only cope with losing 50% of their blood. Below 2 (0 blood on the current system) liters the player is incapacitated. If the player remains in this status for more than a minute or two, he/she will die.Revival An incapacitated player can have their status restored with an emergency blood transfusion. They can not be revived without receiving blood.DeathAgain, if a player remains fully incapacitated too long, they will die.Additionally, if the player runs out of blood completely (imagine in the neighborhood of -2000 blood now), they will die.Pain: similar to a health meter. Uses a percentage out of 100. Humans can only function up to a certain pain threshold.Dynamics(rough guesses with no actual balance related knowledge)Zombie hits could inflict 5-10% or what have youGunshots could range from 25% to 100%Painkillers restore above 50%Morphine restores below 50%EffectsBelow 50 and the shaking sets in.Below 20 and prone or limping is forced. At 0 the player is incapacitated ala: BonesDifferent broken bones should have different effectsDifferent broken bones should inflict varying amounts of painBones should require casts/splints to heal rather than morphineThem BonesLegs: force crawlingArms: force no primary useRibs: no QE lean, no sprintingSkull: Blackout on fracture, blurred vision, view swaying until fixed.I mean, despite being a pretty big list, I feel like most of the features listed here are within the system already. Adding a little more depth and realism to the system would open a lot gameplay possibilities. Open the door for a lot more more interesting experiences. messageboy 0 Posted June 20, 2012 I would keep the blood to units so that it is more exact, unless you want the blood to display both litres and millilitres which would bulk up the UI.There already is blacking out in the current system but only on really low blood with random chance.A lot of players will cry about the incapacitation, even more so for the lone wolves. I don't think this would be needed. The pain one is unrealistic as it is possible for humans to function during pain far higher than is averagely known, many military train their soldiers to be able to handle higher level of pain and still function. I don't think this should be added and just keep the shaking of the screen.I do think that adding more realistic is great, there is a point of changing or adding things too fast with all at once, with instead should change or add things slowly over time with some of these things. edonovan 15 Posted June 20, 2012 I like your suggestion about bones. The rest seems like it's just changing around some numbers. The numbers are meaningless. The zero count of blood could very well mean "less than 2 liters": fall unconscious too many times and you will likely die. You need to ignore the debug monitor and pay more attention to your status icons and various status indicators (shaking hands, blurry vision, etc). Also, being unconscious for two hours would make for a pretty boring death. Having zombies randomly deck you is needlessly frustrating. It doesn't even add that much "paranoia" or what have you, since I don't want to get hit regardless.Preferably, reaching incapacitation should be like reaching zero blood now. Not something that would get you at, say, 5k. You're basically dead, but someone else can save you. Not adding a realistic feature because it doesn't mesh w/one particular playstyle wouldn't make sense. This in particular doesn't take anything from them if it's added they way I mentioned.True, maybe add an adrenaline shot or something. It's also true that some people have super low pain thresholds. It's a computer game, you don't need to represent every outlier. Most people can't function with a cracked femur. There's no need to model people who can. The survivors are not soldiers either, most of them probably haven't had whatever "pain tolerance" training you're talking about, even though I don't think that's a real thing. It's an alpha, rapid changes are what it's all about!I like your suggestion about bones. The rest seems like it's just changing around some numbers. I think it'd add a minor element of realism to the game, and add a little more "story possibility." IE: holy shit, I just lost 2 liters of blood.Woah man, I never said 2 hours. I said a short (read: a minute or two max) timer or total bleedout, whichever comes first.
