Change running motion and speed

One thing that has always bugged me about DayZ is the sprinting motion - specifically the lack of urgency about it. Here's my problems with it:

  • It looks and feels far too casual (esp. 3rd person animation). In a terrifying situation, you are not going to maintain a robotic running form. Or in any situation really. I think the sprinting animation needs variation, depending on situation and terrain. (i.e. sliding around on loose gravel, arms out for balance going downhill, arms flailing a bit more if chased by a zombie). Also, it should be a harder, jerkier motion when changing direction dramatically, like speed lowering, weight shifting etc.

  • Sprint function doesn't have much purpose. It doesn't last long enough, nor does it make you considerably faster. I think that the normal jogging speed should be slightly lowered, so that zombies can catch up to and hit you when running, but sprint speed should be increased and last longer. Or possibly have 3 running functions (jog [w], run [ww], sprint [www]) - default keys in brackets. Like the Grand Theft Auto model, jog is default movespeed, run makes you run faster and could be used for 1-3 minutes, sprint is for life threatening situations, and lasts for 20-30 seconds. In this model, jog speed would be lower than zombie speed, run at or slightly above zombie speed, and sprint maybe 1m/s faster than zombie speed.

I don't know if these would be able to be implemented in the mod, but to see it in the standalone would be really cool!

Its the false engine for animations like that. You could run as fast as a zombie for 15 sec, I would accept that. Your idea seems overpowered to me.

The times you could use them for are only suggestions. Plus with the run and sprint function there would be drawbacks, i.e. would increase hunger and thirst. I just think that when adrenalin is pumping and you are running for your life there is an extra gear you would find, if only for a few seconds.

I was implying that animation changes were for SA. What engine is being used for that?
