Do I have any chance of playing this game/mod without horrible lags?

Recommended Posts

Hello.

What are my chances of running it smoothly(even on lowest settings)?I totally dont want to buy the game(and I buy it only for playing the beloved mod) and waste money(pretty costly for me).

-2 duo , 2.33 GHz

-ATI Radeon 3800

-2.0 GB RAM

I've tried downloading Arma-2 Free Demo and got 39 fps on lowest settings and 29 on med settings for 1-st CPu test mission(the one where you dont play but observe).29 fps for 2-nd mission on lowest - lots of smoke and explosions.

I'd say that in general game ran great during training mission even on high settings(because it was a tiny map I assume) and pretty ok during first mission available in demo,I've tried it on lowest, low and normal.

...Or demo of vanilla Arma 2 is not as picky about hardware as Arma2:CO+DayZ mod?

Thanks for answering and sorry if I've posted it into a wrong section of forum.

I think it'd run at about something similar performance-wise, the draw distance in DayZ doesn't go past about 700-1000m. I guess that image quality would make it harder to play, though, you really need to see far out for anyone in the distance or game/sneaky zombies and the lowest resolution (If you changed that to minimum as well) wouldn't help you much. It's your call, honestly. DayZ doesn't have a lot of smoke and explosions going on, it's mainly your CPU having to handle the amount of AI on the mission which DOES affect framerate pretty severely.

Clocking you processor would probably get a pretty ample graphical boost. I've heard that Arma-2 free isn't very well optimized. I will say I never played Arma II before as it always seemed a bit daunting, and as it stands now I've never played literally any missions or any multiplayer aside from the DayZ mod itself. I paid $30 for this mod? Yup, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Thanks for all the answering!

I've just discovered that I've installed x32 bit OS instead of x64 which means that neither my duo core and 4gb ram(shows as 2 Gb for whatever reason) were used to it's fullest.I was surprised to say the least.

So if I've managed to play it on gimped OS,then Im pretty sure it'll run ok on new OS.

Again,thanks for answers.

P.S.If anyone will post your hardware list as well on which settings do you play comfortably it would be great, but otherwise thread should be closed.

With those specs you just make the minimum requirements, those of us with quad cores shed a tear now and again. So your chances in resolving your query is slim, although the last patch 1.60 for the full versions made a hell of a difference for most.

This could save you from the need upgrade.

To be honest I play Arma II on high easy 30+ frames, and on low on here I get 8. But that is because for some reason this mod hates my graphics card. There really isn't an explanation, I've tried many things to fix it. None work.
