Devin (DayZ) 17 Posted June 20, 2012 I can play fine if with the Six Launcher for Day z , as long as i have the beta checked, and the start in steam ( if possible ) unchecked. However, i NEED my steam overlay in order to play a high brow mod such as Day Z.And if i even try to connect without six launcher, via the games multiplayer menu, i just get the whole " you cannot play/edit this mission; it is dependent on downloadable content that has been deleted.dayz_code, dayz_weapons, dayz_equip, dayz_vehicles" . I have The Beta Patch, Arma2 and operation arrowhead ( Not combined operations, but both full games on steam ). What can i do in order to play with the steam overlay?, this is a must!.Can anyone assist me?.
Nipos 3 Posted June 20, 2012 The following guide has helped me setting it up for Steam within two minutes. I've got Combined Operations on Steam, but I'm pretty sure this will also work when you've got ArmA II and OA separately:1.Make a new non-steam shortcut, choose Browse then browse to your operation arrowhead directory, go into expansion then go into beta. Click on ArmA2OA.exe in that folder and choose Open. The box will close so then choose Add Selected Programs button in the steam add programs box.2.Find the shortcut you just made in your Steam library, right click and choose properties.3.Delete the target line.4.Rename the steam shortcut whatever you want.5.Now edit the following text in notepad or something similar to include your paths. (If you have both Arrowhead and both ArmA2 on Steam you won't need to edit the paths, assuming you have kept the default installation location for Steam and run a 64bit OS.)"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe" "-beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion" "-mod=C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2;Expansion;ca;@dayz" -nosplashOnce you're done making sure that the pathways are correct you paste the code above into the target line in the Steam options of the shortcut, all of it, including the quotations. Now delete the "Start In"-line and replace it with the code below. Edit this if you have a different installation location."C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\"Run the game from your new non-steam game shortcut.Source: http://dayzwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=How_to_install_DayZ#Make_a_shortcut_to_launch_ARMA2_Beta_with_Steam_Overlay_.28Optional.29-edit:also, make sure you've got the Beta set up properly:Go to the Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead directory and right-click -> edit on .cmd file "_runA2CO_beta.cmd".Search for ":run" near the end of the file. Add ";@dayz" without quotes to "-mod=%_ARMA2PATH%;EXPANSION;ca".
Miltrivd 17 Posted June 20, 2012 I can't thank you enough for this. Works perfectly, I don't need Six Launcher anymore (which was causing servers to show false, inflated pings or unresponsive) and incredibly, the game ran smoothly for the first time (sadly that didn't last long, after dying a few times it got really laggy).Again, thanks a lot! It seems like they've got that fixed in the next hotfix: * [FIXED] Poor performance caused by infected search behavior (MAJOR performance increase during closed testing) Good to hear you've got the game working in Steam, though. :)
Devin (DayZ) 17 Posted June 20, 2012 Thanks for all the help, and i am glad to see it is assisting others. However i still appear to be screwed when it comes to playing though steam. Here's the situation on all fronts.1 : If i launch OA or Combined Ops, and attempt to join a server, i get " Rejected Connection, Bad Version " (( Even though i installed the patch as admin, and the script, as shown here )) http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=14440&highlight=Bad+version2: If i use Six Launcher with the " Launch through steam ( If possible ) Option , right after launch i get the " Error creating direct3d error " . Im not sure why i get this, some say it's because of improper launch parameters, but mine are the usual " -mod=@DayZ -nosplash ".3: The ONLY way in which it launches, and allows me to play Day Z is with Six Launcher, Beta Checked, and Steam Launch option unchecked. I cant even join games manually without Six Launcher anymore. Are there any other options?, what else can i do?.Edit : Even after trying that fix listed above, and launching through my non steam game shortcut, if i attempt to join a game i get the same " you cannot play/edit this mission; it is dependent on downloadable content that has been deleted.dayz_code, dayz_weapons, dayz_equip, dayz_vehicles" dumb thing. And if i dont get THAT error ,its the " Rejected Connection, Bad Version".I just dont see how my Arma 2 & OA could be out of date ( when it comes to the beta patch...i already applied. The patch said it applied 1.60 , which seemed old, Yet that was the " Newest patch" on the top of the page here >> http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php. I downloaded the file in the green bar, the latest patch.) And also, i dont understand how i am getting the " deleted.dayz_code, dayz_weapons, dayz_equip, dayz_vehicles" problem, when i look in the expansions in the menu..and see Day Z is enabled...green box.Any other ideas?. Devin (DayZ) 17 Posted June 20, 2012 ( Sorry, Self Bump )Going to work now fellas, i appreciate all assistance given thus far, however i have a steam group of like 15-20 guys in which all use the steam overlay to play properly, and i need it.I have both FULL games from steam, and hell, when i launch operation arrowhead, and it gives the the option to run Combined Operations ( Which i dont own, just both games ) , I do it. And it launches both games. And still with Dayz marked in expansions, as well as beta, it still doesn't work. Please, anyone. I am desperate to play this game to its full potential.AND also, I have been getting the noentrybin/config/weapons error also as hundreds of other players have. Everyone says " Oh its nothing ", But it is the reason i am not seeing weapons spawn. THAT is a problem. How can i fix that as well?.Thanks for all the support again guys. Nipos 3 Posted June 21, 2012 Weird, if you have followed the directions on setting up the non-Steam shortcut properly, it should work. Since you're getting some Bad Version and/or errors about files missing, I'd recommend to re-download and replace all 1.7.1.5 DayZ files manually, and install the latest beta patch (delete the "beta" folder within "Arma 2 operation arrowhead/Extenstion" first, then install the 93965 beta version). When there's a new version of DayZ, I always re-download all mod-files even if some of them weren't affected by the update and I always use the "latest torrent" for that, found here. I then always copy paste the files from the downloaded torrent into the folder with the old mod-files and when prompted, let Windows replace them all. And by " Manual" Install do you mean NOT using six launcher / updater to install the game?. Should i download and transfer all the files manually?.

Should i download and transfer all the files manually?.As far as I know, you don't need any DayZ files in the regular ArmA 2 folder, just in the "arma 2 operation arrowhead\@dayz\addons" folder. -edit: Yes, I'm positive you do not have to put any DayZ files in your regular Arma 2 folder. This is probably the reason why both games are launching when you pick the "Launch Combined Operations" option. And yes, do NOT use Six Launcher or any other automatic updater. Download all the mod files manually, and copy-paste them into the "arma 2 operation arrowhead\@dayz\addons" folder. You can delete the old files first, or let them be and allow Windows to replace them with the files you've just downloaded.
Devin (DayZ) 17 Posted June 21, 2012 Okay, i am downloading the Dayz " Latest Torrent " , I hope that its 1.7.1.5.( Once again sorry for double post )Okay, i extracted all the mod files to the Addons folder, inside the Dayz folder, inside my OA Folder.Six Launcher still has the orange " Install " button on it, as if i did not have the mod. However still when i attempt to connect, it still says wrong version.HOWEVER I JUST HAD AN EPIPHANY!!!!I was using the Arma 2 Free demo with OA Before to play Dayz. Recently i caved in and made the purchase of Arma 2 to play Dayz to its full potential. However i am still seeing " Arma 2 Free " when i start up, and in the menu. Even though its not even in my Steam library.I have Reinstalled OA and Arma 2, and it still says i have Arma 2 Free somehow. What can i do?. Im guessing this is the cause for the wrong version... nile (DayZ) 0 Posted June 21, 2012 This is what I did to get it to work in steam:1. [install OA] a) Install OA as per any steam game. b) Run OA (run it as OA)2. [this step is if using retail Arma2] a) Install Arma2 as normal then update to latest version (v1.11?) b) Copy installed files from wherever you installed it (eg: "C:\program files(x86)/Bohemia Interactive/") into the "...Steam\steamapps\common\" folder, your OA install should have installed into here too (in it's own folder). c) Disable automatic updates on OA in steam. c) Run Arma2 from new directory in steam folder.3. [run OA] a) Run OA through steam as OA, it should show Arma2 and OA logos at the menu screen. b) if you can't see both logos, run through steam as Combined Ops c) Run OA through steam as OA, it should now show both logos.4. [update OA] a) download required updates manually, including the latest beta patch.5. [copy contents of beta to main directory] a) copy "...\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta\" into "...\arma 2 operation arrowhead\" NOTE: you don't need to add any parameters to the launch options in steam.6. [install DayZ mod using Worrom] a) download DayZ Updater ( http://worrom.com/ ) b) run DayZ Updater c) click "Check for Update" and it will autodetect your OA folder and download the latest DayZ and create appropriate folders.7. [play DayZ] a) run OA as normal through steam. b) go into "Expansions" from the OA menu screen and make sure @dayz is enabled. if it is disabled, enable it and select yes/ok when it asks you to restart the game. c) at the menu screen you should now see the ArmaII, ArmaII:OA logos, and text saying @dayz d) play the game! Devin (DayZ) 17 Posted June 21, 2012 MAJOR UPDATE!!!I was using Arma 2 Free and my full operation Arrowhead prior to buying the full arma 2. At one point to get Dayz to function i needed to copy some Arma 2 Free files to a folder in OA. This screwed everything up.I have manually deleted Arma 2 and OA from my computer, and uninstalled steam. I have now reinstalled steam, and am re-downloading arma 2 and OA, and am going to start the whole process over again. I think this may resolve the issue.
