Help me help my friend FIX THIS! (Please!)

Hello all!

My friend Mike does not have much FPS lag, but about once every 30 seconds to a minute, he freezes in place for roughly 7-10 seconds at a time, and then unfreezes. With my own experience in troubleshooting, I believe that this is not FPS-related at all and is instead related to latency/network issue(s).

He uses six launcher/updater. He has the full paid versions of A2+OA on Steam. He runs the optimized cfg/ini tweaks in the sticky, with the usual launch options to optimize game performance.

He uses the Comodo Firewall and he has tried disabling the firewall and also just running Comodo in Game Mode. I browsed through his router control panel, game settings files, launch options, confirmed that he is using the beta client + latest patch, looked at his computer's network settings, etc. I did not see anything that looked like it would cause a problem.

He is also hard-wired into the router directly on a desktop computer, so no laptop or wireless issues to point at.

Some information about his computer (off the top of my head):

i7 Processor @ 3.2 Ghz

Radeon HD 4850 1GB (Little outdated now but plenty powerful enough for A2 since it is CPU-intensive not GPU)

16 GB RAM (I don't remember specs timings and details but it is 16GB, overkill for DayZ)

7200 RPM 600GB hard drive (shouldn't be a problem with the freezing, if anything it should me micro-stuttering as the slower hard drive renders so much data)?

750w PSU...

Video drivers are up to date with the latest version.

On game settings, he has video ram on default, shadows disabled, AA/AF off, Postprocessing off, all terrain/texture/etc on lowest settings. Both resolution and 3d resolution at 1920x1080.

Zombies maul him while he is frozen, players kill him easily as he seems to get hit with the freezes EXTREMELY often. We have server-hopped and the freezing affects him equally on all servers.

Network/latency related I think, but no other game does this to him.

What possibilities are left to look at to address this long freeze?

PS - Sorry for the long post, want to be as thorough and informative as possible to ease the troubleshooting process!

Can we please get a statement from any dev on this issue? Over a month ago rocket said it was the debug menu that was causing it. and that it would be fixed in the next update: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=1041&pid=10758#pid10758 .Well, it seems like it didn't.

My friend is currently having the same problem. We've tried:

- Reinstalling ArmA II and ArmA II: OA.

- Starting Steam, ArmA and Day Z as administrator.

- Applying latest beta patch from Bohemia.

- Installing through Six Launcher.

- Installing manually.

- Turning off and uninstalling any firewalls.

- Turning off vertical sync.

- Setting all video settings to low.

- Using GameBooster.

- Finding servers through Six Launcher.

- Finding servers through ArmA II: OA Beta ingame.

- Run memory tests.

He has given up, I'm carrying on as a bannerman for the hundreds of people still having this problem, still being unable to play Day Z.

Please devs, take time to address this issue, at least with a short reply telling us why it happens - or if you even know. We have no problem assisting you in recreating and troubleshooting the problem, as it happens all the time, no matter what server he is on.

if your friends CPU has a good cooler try clocking your CPU to like 4.2 or check your cables connected to your monitor if this happens out of game as well get a god quality HDMI cable not some 15 $$$$$$ one

His CPU is better than mine, and he plays other games better than I do. He also has one of the nice top rated gold-plated HDMI cables from Newegg. The freezes do not happen to him in any other game. I am wondering if A2/DayZ require any port configurations on certain machines or if there is a network-related thing that is different on some setups that may need to be changed.

It is frustrating to say the least, out of our little squad running around, we constantly have to stop and wait while his freeze goes away, and often he gets shot or agrro'd while frozen. We have been using temp monitoring software and his CPU/GPU temps are very low at all times.

I too have noticed several other people with the same freezing issues. My friend runs the game at an average of 40FPS and doesn't stutter or have FPS lag that we notice, it seems that this is network/latency related!

you can find new server with ingame server list, filter server name to current dayz build number.

this way is stopped the freezes i had, now all is smooth.

Thank you we will surely try this when my friend gets online! Sounds promising, but I wonder why my Six Launcher doesn't mess with my stuff, and I leave it open the whole time I play....Oh well, if it works it works!

it refreshes or syncing something all xx seconds and this causes the continued freezes on my old machine and low 3mbit cable

He has a pretty damn top-end machine with 20 down/3 up internet. I am eagerly waiting for him to sign on so that we can try this out though, first really constructive post I've gotten!

I have the same exact problem, except my comp is pretty bad, however, i hardly lag in between freezes, i had asked others before, friends and on a post, but pretty much was told close six or buy new comp >.> Closing six worked once for me, out of the 15+ times i've tried now
