New player ready to start, important question

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, just hopping on here to hopefully get a question answered before I join you all in this dayz experience.

I've been watching a lot of videos and such about the game in passing, before actually playing any, and my impression is that hacking is very easy/prevalent due to the nature of data stored client-side. Is there anything I can do to improve my experience in this regard? Specifically, are there certain servers that are less prone to hackers? Better server-side detection, some sort of punkbuster system, more strict rules, etc?

I know nothing about what rules / modes / options the servers for this game can even have, but I'm looking for a fair and legit experience and I'd like to find a nice server with little to no hackers to start out and play regularly on. So, any tips or advice for a brand new player in regards to this?

Thanks in advance for the input.

There are many private hive servers that do not have many problems with hackers, but I think you should go on a public hive for the vanilla experience. The first thing I can say is that nothing is permanent so if you lose something to a hacker, brush it off because getting mad will not help.

It's really not that bad, Hackers are found on the servers that don't have the protection most servers do. I myself have not had many problems with hackers because I stick to the servers that have a whitelist system and/or private hives that have certain anti-cheat/hack software implemented.

Just browse through the forums looking for whitelist servers or private hives that tell you what they have to prevent hackers.

Also, taking into account what God Dan said above (how ironic... 'God' and 'Above' lol) just go onto the Public hive servers to get used to the game first, who knows, you may find a clan that you enjoy playing with that have their own server.

What makes something a "private hive"? Does this refer to invite only, paying money, etc? I'm not familiar with this term. And if the vanilla server is a reasonable choice to start on to learn the game, what sort of stuff would I be adding to the base experience if I did go with a better protected private hive? I want to play on the base map and everything w/o too much stuff added, I'm mostly just concerned with cheats and such. Thanks for the responses.

The hacking scene has really died down, but they're still there. Personally I would steer clear of public hives, as hackers frequent them. But I would mostly just get whitelisted on good servers, such as BMRF, or Balota Buddies.

Hey dude, glad you are joining in on some DayZ. Everyone here is correct, private hives are the way to go.

First step is downloading DayZ Commander. http://www.dayzcommander.com/

Look through the servers, they usually have a description in the title, look for "Private Hive"

I recommend Balota Buddies. I have been with these guys for a couple months now, and not seen a SINGLE hacker/scripter on their whitelisted servers. Whielisted is when you have to put in an application, get interviewed, and then be accepted.

BB's founder even created his own AnitHack system that runs a quick check through your files to see if you have any scripts in your PC.

BB not only brings a great set of servers, but also a great community. Check us out at http://balotabuddies.net/

A private hive is a custom server, though some do, not all servers require you to pay. It just means that it is controlled and run by people who own the server.

don't fall in love with stuff you find.

http://dayzdb.com/map

learn where you are!

there are plenty of whitelist private hives. as in you gotta ''Apply" and they give you a password. don't worry a lot of them accept every one and its just use to keep spammers and hackers out. try out 'Hunters Den'

Admins are usually really cool and will help you when a hack happens.
