arrowxd 9 Posted May 30, 2013 Hi, im kind of new to building pc's and im pretty sure most of you out there know alot about cpu compability, right now DayZ Chernarus runs pretty swell, There is framerate issues but not of that which makes it so i cant play, But my frames are pretty good in other games, but i want to upgrade my cpu, as i show you the specs please take into mind that his was my first custom pc i built so i didnt want to go all out and buy the best parts because i had no idea if i was going to mess it up, Here are the specs of my current build..1GB XFX Radeon HD 7770Intel Pentium G850, Socket 1155, Dual Core, 2.90GHz (Sandy Bridge)LiteOn IHAS124-04 24x DVD±RFractal Design Core 1000Corsair CX600 600WATT power supplyMSI H61M-P31 (G3) Motherboard (1155 socket)4GB Corsair Value DDR3 PC3-10600 (1333)500GB Seagate ST500DM002 Barracuda SATA III 6Gb/s, 7200rpmWindows 7 64BIT ProfessionalAnd i want to upgrade to an: Intel Core i5 3570K,1155, Ivy Bridge, Quad Core, 3.4GHz, 5 GT/s DMI, 650MHz GPU, 6MB Smart Cache, 34x Ratio, 77W, RetailBUT! It says that it does suppourt my mother board because its a 1155 socket, but it says that: Ivybridge CPU's will work on H61/H67/P67 & Z68 Boards but a BIOS Update may be required for these Motherboards to support them. But im not quite sure if its compatible completely and i need to peform a BIOS update??? Can someone please help. Note, the cpu i have in now i sandy bridge and i want to upgrade to a Ivy bridge am i allowed to do that??

Mos1ey 6301 Posted May 30, 2013 Yup, I believe they're compatible. Also, the 3570k is a big jump up from a Pentium. Enjoy!
LiamD 13 Posted May 30, 2013 1GB XFX Radeon HD 7770Intel Pentium G850, Socket 1155, Dual Core, 2.90GHz (Sandy Bridge)LiteOn IHAS124-04 24x DVD±RFractal Design Core 1000Corsair CX600 600WATT power supplyMSI H61M-P31 (G3) Motherboard (1155 socket)4GB Corsair Value DDR3 PC3-10600 (1333)500GB Seagate ST500DM002 Barracuda SATA III 6Gb/s, 7200rpmWindows 7 64BIT ProfessionalThis is the exact same build I started with except used the Sapphire OC version of that graphics card. Likewise I looked at upgrading the CPU and went to an i5 2500k (2nd Gen CPU) and it was a good decision (great increase in fps AND I could actually use stuff like Fraps)! This motherboard supports up to 3rd Gen cpus such as the 3570k so you shouldn't have a problem as mZLY said.

pEar (DayZ) 26 Posted May 30, 2013 Definitely a good upgrade.
beatSTV 631 Posted May 30, 2013 definitely a good upgrade but your gpu will bottleneck it slightly not really enough to be worried about but you wont be able to get into the 50's
nik21 287 Posted May 30, 2013 A 3570K wouldn't make any sense as you can not use the open multiplier with an H61 Chipset mainboard.

There are cheaper alternatives than the 3570 (e.g. 3550P, 3470) which you can overclock slightly (up to 4,2 GHz I believe) by adjusting the turbo.

Cap'n (DayZ) 1827 Posted May 30, 2013 I'd get a new motherboard AND switch to AMD if I were you. Oh, and you have Jack Frags Steambox. It's a terrible build. The CPU bottlenecks everything.
