Disabling the Humanity System - Serverside Option

Recommended Posts

I think there are quite a few people that would agree that the humanity system doesn't fit quite right in DayZ. In a cruel, unforgiving world where nothing is supposed to be certain, you can judge a player by clothing that they didn't even choose to wear. It's something I find really unrealistic and out of line with the rest of the game.

It also creates a lot of unfairness for "bandits". I see all these people that like to announce that they kill all bandits on sight. I would think that there is a large number of bandits that have only become bandits through self defense, and then the skin often stays on a player through multiple lives. PvP is a legitimate playstyle that is necessary if not fundamental to the DayZ experience, whether you think there's too much of it or not. We shouldn't punish these people for it in such unrealistic ways.

Of course, there are a lot of people that appreciate the humanity system, and they have their reasons, too. In all but a few cases, killing people will change someone mentally. Furthermore, I'm sure that a lot of bandits in a real-life situation would want to hide their identities by concealing their faces.

So, maybe there's a middle ground. My suggestion is to allow a server admin to enable or disable the humanity system on a server at will. If it was off, there would be no bandit or hero skins, and no bonuses from humanity. In the standalone, if there is still a humanity system, then whatever it is would be removed from the server as well. No change in stance, or blood stains on clothing, or whatever form it will take.

So, discuss this idea and your own in the comments, or your opinions on the humanity system in general.

Thanks for reading.

My intention differs verry from yours here :) i think im talking to a bandit right now, correct ;)

in my opinion the effects of the humanity-system is by far to WEAK :)

even in a world wehre humanity is nearly whiped out by infected (i even did not get what the Z in DayZ stands for but it can't be Zombie - because Zombies DONT RUN ;) ) killing each other and lowering the last survivng people instead of helping each other to survive will lead to total termination of human species - so i dont think that anyone would realy start playing "Deathmatch" in such a situation and kill everyone on sight just for fun.

sure there will be bandits in such a world - but even those would most likely not kill you if avoidable.

the bandit and hero skin is good indicator to guess who mostlikly gives a sh*t about other suvivors and who may help you if you ask.

Well, your first mistake is assuming that I am a bandit. I almost exclusively help people when I play DayZ.

Second of all, I'm not arguing about what people would do in a total breakdown of infrastructure and society, I'm just offering my thoughts on the results of this phenomenon in DayZ.

Thirdly, I know WHY the humanity system is in place, to show a players intentions. But I think that a lot of playerd don't like that idea and feel that it doesn't fit in DayZ, because we're going for authenticity, aren't we?

And finally, I'm not saying the humanity system should be removed entirely. I'm suggesting the ability for one individual server to disable it if they so choose.

The current system dosn't work. I support the system, but it dosn't work.

To many times have I been killed by heroes who come over and say. "Dumb Ass, you thought I was a Hero didn't you?" Many bandits exploit the system with blood bagging thier buddies to get a hero skin. You can't even trust heroes.

That's also true, forgot to put it in the OP. Good point.

Yes, the humanity system is broken, exploited, and plain unrealistic. I would be happy to see it gone or at least have it as a server-side option.

The humanity system is absolutely horrible, can't wait for standalone where one can wear whatever he wants.
