CD Key troubles ;_;

Recommended Posts

So, I obviously got my CD key snatched right from me. Long story short, I downloaded a program that would change some gun skins, and within the next 24 hours, my "CD Key was in use".

I don't want to buy anyone's key who they stole from another innocent person, because we all know that's how those people selling them for $2 get those keys. Also, I can almost guarantee these guys resell the keys as well. So, basically, I don't trust it.

I understand I made a mistake, and all that. I have the $25, as well as a second steam account to buy CO. My problem is, if I were to play Origins or something like that (which you launch through DayZ Commander), how would I tell it to NOT revert to my in use CD key as I will now have 2 copies of Arma 2. Will I have to literally remove everything before installing this new Arma?

Sorry if this was confusing :(

Thanks in advance!

~ Dan

To be absolutely safe I'd do a clean reinstall of my OS, as the malware that nicked your key is more than likely still lurking on your system and will steal your new key

Try playing Call of Duty, you can change gun skins on that game and get a golden gun skin or even tiger camouflage.

Yeh it's harsh but you have malware on your system, until you can be sure your system is clean you run the risk of having your keys stolen in the future.

Damn :(

I will be doing that. Just backed up my HDD. Now, once I did that, I can create a new steam account, and download DayZ commander, and I should be good?

Yeh you should be sorted then (if you're formatting everything). It's a pain in the ass but I guess you've learned the hard way only to download files from sites you trust. There's many ways people try to steal keys but they always entail you having to instal a keystealer on your system. Sometimes they're disguised as fps boosters, maps, hacks, you name it.

Anyhoo good luck.

First of all don't buy CO! Just buy OA. You only need an OA CD key. Once you get the key, run the game on your alternate steam, close it, then follow these steps:

1. Open "Run"

2. Type in regedit, press enter.

3. Open folders: Software>Wow6432Node>Bohemia Interactive Studio

4. Right click Arma 2 OA folder, open permissions, hit advanced

5. Change the "Set Value" permission to "Deny", click apply

6. Close regedit, switch back to your normal steam account, and launch through commander as normal.

Note: Your beta patch updates might give an error message saying "Wrong CD Key" but you can ignore these, your game still gets updated.
