theonlytom 6 Posted May 15, 2013 Fog system in arma 3 Becouse the DayZ team is closely connected to the Arma 3 team i think it wouldn't be hard to implement this fog system. Imagine hearing you aggroed a zombie but you cant see it through the fog. Horror story right there! Suddenly walking into another player that was hidden in the fog, trying to get to higher ground to navigate, etc.I think there are lots of awesome situations possible.
JSparks (DayZ) 109 Posted May 15, 2013 Don't think that for the standalone they will only use systems from Bohemia's other games. I would not be surprised whatsoever if they developed an entirely new fog system for Day,. After all, its quite an important gameplay factor.
sinkatze 52 Posted May 15, 2013 Yeah I watched this video when it was released and thought right away it should be in SA, this is the best fog ArmA has had. I don't know if there is any bugs on it, but if it works great then it should even be easy to add to DayZ.I always thought DayZ needs more weather admospheres, fog been a very important one. Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted May 15, 2013 (edited) Don't think that for the standalone they will only use systems from Bohemia's other games. I would not be surprised whatsoever if they developed an entirely new fog system for Day,. After all, its quite an important gameplay factor. It'd be a bit silly for the same company to develop the same thing twice. The SA will be using some elements from Arma 3 so I see no reason they wouldn't use the fog unless performance was an issue. Most companies do the same, Bethesda is a good example. TIC 1050 Posted May 16, 2013 Imagine you are lurking in a forest and hear nothing but your footsteps and your calm breathing, then you see a horde emerge out of the fog. Now that'd be a good DayZ moment :)Adds right to the atmosphere of a horror/survival aspect.
pawlzz 18 Posted May 17, 2013 I think this has practically only pros, co we can all say it would be good.Of course yes!
Steak and Potatoes 13480 Posted May 18, 2013 I think my potato could handle the fog on max settings going to give it a test right now.
wisper 61 Posted May 18, 2013 Yes! At last this can boost creepy atmosphere. Plus, it will provide a bunch of new tactical parameters to cope with, (has anyone used night vision in fog?)Loosly relevant: On creepy atmosphere, what does everybody think about scripted instances? Obviously they should be tailored to simply make the player more nervous and they should be short and rare enough to be noticable when they happen. For example: U go through the town and suddenly a child dashes across a side street so fast that u barely get a glimpse. No real effect on gameplay, no benefits or dissadvantages, (appart from the occasional reflex pot shot it might cause) just a momentary rush.
Saecii 12 Posted May 19, 2013 This would be awesome for countering hill snipers; just go into town on early mornings when the fog is dense and navigate yourself around town by memory of where the most basic buildings are located in relation to each other. It is dynamics like this that will make this game awesome, no need for artificial limitations on guns to accomplish balance when you can just exploit natural features like this to go around it.In addition to fog I would also like more to see more bushes and low vegetation.
