Overgrowth engine for DayZ?

Recommended Posts

Its not even remotely complete. I seriously doubt it can do what armas engine does also. Theres a reason why no one else has a game like this you know.

Well I seriously doubt ARMA engine is anything special or even very good, at the very least it's one of the buggiest engine I ever played especially for DayZ mod, where your stuff disappears if you misclick or your AK 74 shot isn't powerful enough to pierce through household glass windows, zombies ignoring walls etc etc.

And yes ofc it's not complete (duh), I understand it's far fetched, but still imagine what if...

Relative to what the Arma engine is doing, it's pretty damn good.

Besides, Day Z itself is in its alpha stage still. Vanilla Arma:CO isn't anywhere near as a buggy.

talking to people with no imagination is pointless i guess... Seems people like to argue just for the sake of it. I guess thats the whole point of forums in general. To argue without even properly reading or thinking about what was written and just giving own irrelevant opinions.

plus this mod was possible thanks to rocket and not the engine, if anything they told him no when he brought the idea.

you clearly don't understand game design or anything arma related isn't for you. I've looked at the phoenix engine which is powering overgrowth, comparing it to the arma 2 engine it is not as powerful the manipulation of that engine to make what is required for all new animations new objects basically you would be starting the game from scratch. while the arma 2 engine and game itself already has the animations and like required for a survival mod. And if you really think that from what you've seen that arma is buggy then you clearly just bought the game for the mod and we don't need people like you

Dude, Overgrowth's engine was built from the ground up specifically for Overgrowth.. a lot of features that make DayZ what it is wouldn't work in Phoenix.

Hey, imagine Overgrowth on the Arma engine!

Can I ask why exactly you think an engine designed around smaller, more linear levels and platforming and hand -to-hand combat is more suitable for DayZ than a milsim with a seamless 226 sq. km map and many of the underlying mechanics already implemented?

You can't just say "This engine looks cool.. imagine porting DayZ over to it!".. there are seemingly a huge number of things you haven't considered.. like that fact that the Phoenix engine isn't at all suited for a game of this scale.

Never going to happen.

DayZ is composed of 95% Arma 2 + expansions. The rest is unique character persistence and syncing, custom animations, several new weapons and models and sounds, spawn scripts etc. Everything else is Arma engine and content - Chernarus, weapons, vehicles etc...

Engine it is unique because it handles and syncs thousands of objects and hundreds of players/AI. Everything works with AI and MP.

Engine was never designed for this kind of stuff, and yes, even old Arma players are sick of it.

Look up info about Arma3, it should fix lots of crap, and feature lot of new, and DayZ will almost surely be ported.

You honestly do not have the faintest clue what you are talking about, Hesher.

Do not begin lamenting how people have "no imagination" and it's "pointless to talk to them" when you don't know what you're talking about.
