cannot get Dayz to run a higher version than 1.62

i cannot get dayz to run the beta versions.. i have opt'd into them, and have let them update and download on steam, but when i double click the game it asks -

Play arma2: DayZ Mod

Play with Beta Patch

when i click play with beta patch is says

failed to start game (missing executable)

and when i click just play arma2 dayz mod it wont allow me to play the beta version..

i went to steams website and it says to delete the appcache folder and restart my computer..

did that, didnt do shit..

any tips/ideas? would be GREATLY appreciated

i spent almost 100 bucks to get arma 3 and arma 2 game packs so i could play the dayz mod for both of them, i must wait till i upgrade my CPU b4 im willing to mess with arma3, but i at least should be able to play arma2!!

Good call you always have to be sure when trouble shooting when you jump to step 9 and they take you back to 0 with a huh? I'm supposed to have that to? mrerlwein once you download it go to the menu on the top right you will see a tab labeled install/update go there and update both beta patch and your dayz versions to current

Indeed, you have everything that you need then.

In DayZ Commander (assuming you bought through Steam) just click the update tab and download the latest ARMA 2 Beta patch and DayZ mod itself and you're good to go.

Celle etc. are unofficial extra maps and mods of the mods. All that you need to start playing is the ARMA 2 beta version and plain old DayZ mod.

You may want to check the boxes listed under 'Steam options' in settings if you want to log your play time and use Steam in-game browser while playing too. :)

^ above is how to update your patch and version the extra addon's are additional maps and variants of dayz all playable through dayz commander once the DL is completed

u guys are all life savers.. i feel like an idiot. i mean, i game, i built my system.. but this game had me stumped.

i seem to understand the commander and what i need.. ill let u know how it goes, and maybe one day ill see u in the game!!

It is a bit of a long winded installation process, just another thing to look forward to in the standalone though, I guess. You should have been here in the days before Commander though, lol, now that was a pain in the arse.

Anyways, DayZ Commander will keep you right. Every time a new DayZ update or ARMA 2 beta patch becomes available it'll be on there almost instantly and your update tab will turn yellow to let you know. The ARMA 2 beta patches are backwards compatible but you have to join DayZ servers running the version of the mod that you currently have installed.

now that i see (after i did some coding changes) how well this runs on my system, i think to myself.. i wonder if arma 3 dayz would be playable if i applied the same fixes to the config files.

Well you're above the min. requirements but don't quite reach the recommended specs. There's no harm in trying though... :)
