Scarlet_Blade 12 Posted June 19, 2012 I suppose, I should of elaborated the first post more... but > 1) I lose more of my gear to the updates than I do to other playersI don't mind dying, even if I died more, but to go out kill/farm, logoff and the next morning your loot is gone because of a patch? It's disheartening for me. Possible fix: Have a beta servers for the alpha? lololol Lately from what i've gathered the DayZ team wants to keep all the servers completely up to date. Keeping all the servers up to date would just cause more people raging about losing their loot. > 2 ) The updates generally break things more than they fix. Alpha is for pushing code, yes, but I hate programming and would rather spend time trying to have it as stable as possible instead of having to review it over and over trying to find what I did wrong. > 3) Some of the updates seem a bit overdone (IE; buffing zombies, while taking away starting guns all in the same patch) Yes, this is an alpha, but this is also a marketing product for Rocket, whether or not it is user friendly can have a significant change of users who will buy the (If there is ever a standalone, the ARMA3 DayZ mod, etc) The flocking of new players to the game, with infinite zombie spawns, no weapon to kill them with, etc instantly turns people off and gives the game a bad rep. > 4) No real/clear installation instructions / or a updated thread on how to install things properly (I have to walk most of my friends through the installation process step by step) Their would be less threads on "WHY IS THIS NOT INSTALLING CORRECTLY" if their was one stickied thread with links to each individual fix for all the information that a player needed to install the game correctly whether it be through Steam, Six Launcher, Retail, etc. Asdfghjkl;. i've clearly made enough people hate me, but I figured i'd at least attempt to clear my conscious of why I feel about the things that I doAs I said' date=' Scarlet... I'm sure your intentions were positives ones, but this community has seen literally 100's of these kind of posts by authors who were less savvy and proper than yourself. Just bear this in mind for any future threads that you want to create for constructive criticism about the mod.[/quote']I'll keep this in mind. Kevimaster 0 Posted June 19, 2012 I agree, I really appreciate the amount of time Rocket puts into this mod, but I feel the development style with the rolling updates is the main cause of the issue. A monthly release for new updates could go a long way to improving the experience and making updates less of a pain for players/server owners.Another game I'm avidly playing that is in alpha right now just had its developer post today that he was wrapping up the final piece of code for the next update but not to think that meant release was imminent because:"I expect no less than a full week of simply polishing up the thing, correcting a few animations, tweaking the FSM design, and anything that we might find that needs attention." -HarvesteRThere is nothing anywhere that says that alpha needs to be rolling updates, an update release schedule works just fine while giving the developer more time for debugging. If he does lack personnel to help debug then what I suggest he does is to setup 3-5 servers that will still be rolling updates. These are his own servers and are the only ones that will receive the rolling updates, players can install the 'latest' rolling version to connect to those servers and play with the new goodies he has added. All other servers will remain on the most recent 'stable' version of the mod until Rocket feels like the features for the next update have been implemented well and are relatively bug free. This does have some problems though, such as:Your character obtaining new or modified items in the test server, what happens if you roll your update back to the normal version?I am not sure what the solution to that would be, but I'm sure that either someone else or Rocket could suggest an adequate one. Maybe just have the test servers not affect your character profile so when you return to another server and the 'stable' update then it reverts you to your state and position before you joined the test server.
