JeffDetroit 717 Posted May 5, 2013 I remember a story I heard on National Public Radio about a scientist who was studying dreaming and how he could increase the chances for lucid dreams by having his test subjects play a virtual reality game of skiing down a mountain slope. These dreams were of "you" actively manipulating/participating in your own dream, as if you were running your very own virtual reality game in your own head instead of on your computer. The test subjects played the semi-realistic skiing game for hours, then, they would go to sleep. They would begin to dream about... skiing or skiing-like things and the scientist asked them to keep a journal about what their dreams were about. It turns out that initially, they would be dreaming of themselves skiing down the mountain, as if they were really doing it, and making actual choices in their dreams about how they moved. Then, the dreams, after a time, adapted, transformed via other specific associations in the brain, some people were sledding down the mountain, others were dreaming of falling from tremendous heights, still more, that they were being chased. So, my question to you is: "Having played this zombie apocalypse virtual reality game for long stretches of time, many of us just before going to sleep, have you had lucid dreams about being in the game? And what choices occurred in your DayZ dream, what was different?
pbrunk 114 Posted May 5, 2013 I've had a few DayZ dreams, but not lucid dreams.Unfortunately they weren't epic or anything. I was just messing around in the wasteland.

Skat3rat 1633 Posted May 5, 2013 (edited) I've had one and it was a while back when I was a bandit. I remember being in some field. Not sure where the field was. It was night and I saw someone a couple hundred meters infront of me. I was with a friend but I don't remember who. The guy I saw fired a round and killed my friend. I took cover behind a bush. I didn't have a gun and was terrified. I hugged the grown and clawed my hands into it, trying to stay as low as possible. After a while the guy who shot my friend left and I woke up shortly later. Saethkept 134 Posted May 5, 2013 Not about DayZ. When I dream zombies, it tends to be the terrified, barricading myself into a building while they break through sort of thing. For some reason they are always the zombies from Return Of The Living Dead. Now if I could just dream Linnea Quigley into the scenario with me ... I'd be set.
applejaxc 2500 Posted May 5, 2013 I've had lucid ones where I go from a fire ax to a helicopter in the span of half an hour.

JeffDetroit 717 Posted May 6, 2013 You guys described great dream sequences. I think it helps (for dreams) if you're kinda trespassing into your normal sleep span. I was on for a while in Planet F8L, from 10:30p.m. to about 2a.m. (I know, I'm a lightweight...) and it was a really good session, stopped suddenly by my wife walking into the room furious that I woke her up after I was apparently shouting "Friendly Friendly" to f8lerror (the Admin) who surprised me at the NW Airfield. Sheepishly excusing myself from the game with abort, I hightailed it directly to bed and was quickly asleep. The next thing I know, I'm right back at the NW Airfield (but now in my dream) and I'm proning all over the place and there's zombies, those monkey hopping fu+kers (hate those most of all), all around me and I know they're seeing me and I can't stand up to run, I'm still proning like mad. Suddenly I'm nudged awake by my wife, it is now like 4a.m. and she says my "Jimmy-Legs" are waking her up and I'm murmuring "Friendly" in my sleep! She said, for her sake (and mine!) that I shouldn't have those late night gaming sessions unless I want a pillow over my face!
narwaljunior 18 Posted May 6, 2013 I had one dream where I was watching my character run through some city. It could have been Cherno but I don't know. I was running around firing at people who would turn around corners and there was like, a group or something of people running down the train tracks and then a train came and ran over my guy while there was 2 bandits firing guns everywhere. I was "able" to control my guy in my dream, but I didn't know it was a dream until right before I woke up.
RabidDiabetic 63 Posted May 6, 2013 I was playing DayZ and my fiancee was in the room watching the movie Seven Psychopaths. I went to bed a few hours later and was in some DayZ type world in my dream. My underground base was under attack, my brother and I were fighting off two attackers we couldn't get a good view on. I finally caught up to one of them and had a clear shot, I pulled up my FNS-40 (Not in DayZ but its the gun I actually use for concealed carry) and I pop two shots to their chest. Suddenly I make eye contact and I just shot Woody Harrelson. Somehow my dream mixed both DayZ and the movie I was only glancing at. I don't remember what happened after that if anything even did. JeffDetroit 717 Posted May 6, 2013 @RabidDiabetic: and that's exactly what I was saying, how the dreams transform/personalize. I guess it was good that your fiancee wasn't watching Texas Chainsaw Massacre at the time! After a while of practicing lucid dreaming, you can eventually play more selectively "in the game, in your dream"Unfortunately, I'm about as bad a shot in my dreams as I am in-game! (but at least there's no Battle-Eye)
Guest Posted May 6, 2013 I remember one. I've only ever had one but I remember parts clearly.I was up near my base. I began a run towards vybor when a convoy went passed. I dived to the ground gun at the ready when they stopped. I began to crawl back towards base and heard a zombie. I couldn't see it but could hear up. Then I felt a punch and woke up with a bleeding nose........
Ypsan 20 Posted May 6, 2013 Oddly for the last couple of years I rarely remember my dreams after I wake up but once, before DayZ was created, I dreamt of being chased by zombies in some strange city that appeared deserted. Buildings looked a lot like in Cherno but no parks or other green areas. All the doors and windows were shut so all I could do was keep running down the streets. I could hear zombies behind me but was too afraid to look behind so I kept running with fear growing to the point where I became aware of the dream but couldn't force my eyes to open and the damn dream went on. I don't know how long it really took to finally open my eyes and stop this horror but it felt like couple of minutes, which is damn long when you're being chased by a horde of enraged zombies. I don't know if this would be lucid dreaming but never had something similar happen to me after.
