Blackscreen after several Minutes / when loading Gear/Map

Recommended Posts

I have a problem with Dayz (Origins). After some time (sometimes 2 minutes, sometimes 2 hours) my game crashes.

In most cases my screen just gets black and i hear a sound as if someone just restartet my computer and the screen power led keeps blinking as if the computer is not running anymore. In fact, the computer is running (at least the power led is on), but i have no chance to get my screen back. Sometimes i even have to restart my computer several times, to get my screen to work again, because after one single restart my screen just keeps blinking as if it gets no signal from the computer.

In the other cases (probably 25% of the time) my game just freezes and i have no chance to close Arma2 OA or do anything. Tabbing out aswell as tast manager doest work. I have to restart my computer too.

I didnt have this problem some days/weeks ago and i have the feeling, that its getting worse. Some days ago i could play probably some hours before the game crashes in one of the two ways above. Now, i cant even play for half an hour.

I first thought, that my power supply may be damaged or my CPU/GPU overheats, but i ran both Fumark (100% GPU usage) and prime95 (100% CPU usage) for half an hour without any problems. No overheating, no power supply problems. I alsohave no problems with other games on max graphics (FC3, Diablo, ...)

It is also misterious, that these crashes often occure, when i enter someone´s gear (e.g. looting some body) or vehicle´s gear, aswell as opening the map. Entering a vehicle gear from inside via "m" -> units -> gear crashed almost every time, especially in the black limousine vehicle.

My system:

Intel Core i5 3470 4x 3.20GHz So.1155

Gigabyte H77-DS3H, Intel H77, ATX

8GB G.Skill NT Series DDR3-1333 DIMM CL9

2048MB Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 XT Boost Aktiv PCIe 3.0 x16

530 Watt be quiet! Pure Power L8 CM Modular 80+ Bronze

250GB SSD Samsung 840 Series

Thanks and greetings

edit: As i crashed again i recognized, that there is no sound as if my computer restarts when i get a blackscreen but my graphics card immediatly gets silent after the blackscreen. After the blackscreen i can hear some ingame sounds which are lagging and after some seconds they are gone too. In this state i cant get my screen back to work when i press the restart button over and over again. I have to turn the computer off and back on, to get my screen back.

edit: I also checked to set all video options to low. Still these crashes (but it appears that it takes longer to crash)

I also recognized the following: I can run Furmark "Burn-in test" for more than 30 minutes without any issue. In this test i can basically use my own testing setup. But if i use the "Burn-in benchmark 1920x1080 15 min" i will get the exact same error as mentioned before at exactly 14:59 minutes. It crashed exactly at the end. I tested it twice and i get the exact same crash in the moment when this test is finished. This is wierd, because i can run the "Burn-in test" with exactly the same settings for more than 30 minutes without a crash.

I hope someone can help me.

i think your problem is your power supply, the second i saw the 530 that raised an eyebrow. Keep in mind this may always be the problem. follow this example

How to change the settings for your PCI-E power out put:

Open your Control Panel.

Select Power Options.

Select Change Plan Settings.

Select Advanced Power Settings.

Scroll Down to PCI Express.

Select Link State Power Management.

Select OFF.

Click Apply

Make sure, if your games are on your SSD, that all the game paths are correct. it sounds like your computer is trying to get more power, maybe upgrading to a 650 gold would give you the little extra boost you may need. personally i would get an 800w gold thermal lake power supply. other than that i think your golden. the reason your screen goes to black and the game crashes is because that's the item that's taking up the most resources that your computer has, so, it protects itself by shutting off your game and reducing the power to your screen hence the screen going black, and the power icon flickering. this can only be resolved safely by professionally installing a power supply. Please look up instructions, guides or video tutorials on how to do so in a safe and cautious manner.
