RabidDiabetic 63 Posted April 30, 2013 (edited) Hey everyone hope this finds you all well.I played Dayz back in the fall for a few weeks and LOVED it but found the hacking to be such a big issue I figured I would wait for the full release. Lately I decided to poke my head into the forums and I'm not noticing every post being about hacking like it was at the time.Has this issue been fixed? Can I safely play on a public server and not worry about getting killed by hacks? I would love to play Dayz again and my brother (being that we are both kind of prepper/survivalists) I know would love to play it as well. Thanks in advance for any replies.Rabid Edited May 3, 2013 by RabidDiabetic
boxman80 964 Posted April 30, 2013 Hacking is still out there its just died down a lot since the wave of popularity that swept the title back in the summer. Also private hives allow much tighter regulation. However this is a double edged sword as now there are way too many private hives out there, playing so many different flavours of Day Z and not enough people to fill them so the community is quite fragmented now. Also some of the private hive admins blatantly abuse their admin tools, so you really have to look around for good stable and reliable community. There are a couple on the forum here I would recommend including Day Z Redux, Balota Buddies, Devils Castle Will fall and of course our own community The BSB Network. All of which are well established and stable.
RabidDiabetic 63 Posted April 30, 2013 I actually remember seeing BSB when I was playing the first time around. You already addressed another concern I had though with everyone going private server I feel like it will be hard to find a high population server. I guess I'll see if I can find a server I like and worst case scenario go back to impatiently waiting for the full release. Thanks for your response.
herrjon 478 Posted April 30, 2013 Yeah, I'd stick with an established community server. Even on public hive, servers come and go everyday, desperately trying to get player traffic. They either shut down, change maps, or add ridiculous mods to it to attract attention.
Sweendawg 37 Posted May 1, 2013 try out my server we have base building mostly pve sign up here crueserver1.freeforums.net most of us on there are from a server that shut down and have been playing together awhile looking to add some new blood into the mix
xjdwatson 3 Posted May 2, 2013 I can honestly relate to this. When i started playing there was always a hacker in Elektro or Cherno, but i can really say hacking has died down alot especially in private hives. :) Its a hacker free world out there MAN! teas926 7 Posted May 3, 2013 I'm in the same situation, returning to Chenerus after a short vacation. Cannot wait to get stuck back into the fray. Hackers, meh, you're gonna find em sooner or later. I fell in with a bunch very early in the game before I knew any better and they seemed kind of cool, it just takes the fun out of scavenging and I don't see the point. Can't comment on the current state of hacking as I won't be logging in for another few days. Hopefully they don't put you off returning to an unbelievable gaming experience.
tajjuk 65 Posted May 3, 2013 (edited) They are certainly still about, I've been playing for about 3-4 weeks now mianly on Public servers and I've seen -- 3 Trucks rammed full of gear plus a weapons crate all left at Factory.- One server littered with heli crash sites, like about a dozen all within easy wlaking distance (like 4 or 5 in the same field)- I've been running accross an empty field and suddenly ran into a helicopter, turned around and saw like 4 more, trucks cars etc then had some whiny american teenager scream at me to stand still but I ran off and managed to log off.- found another hacked in weapons crate in the middle of a field, took about 20 bear traps out of it and set them all around it.So yeh there seems plenty of hacking about but then if you take into acocunt the amount of time played those instances are quite rare. Like somone above said Private Hives can have bad admins, my mate and I were on one and we were driving along in our truck when we heard a chopper. It was sitting in a field so we decide drive along the edge of the field to have a look. I had jumped out a little before and hid in the treeline just in case. There were 3 guys around the chopper and they all started shooting at our truck so I cleaned two of them out and the third maanged to take off in the chopper. Turned out they were all admins, they started moaning in the side chat. I basically said to them that they fired first and they got outplayed as they all had their attention on the truck and were completely exposed. Well within like two minutes the server suspiciously re-started, when we spawned back in our truck had gone and shortly after an attack heli killed us. Only the admin could have come found us so quickly, well I sent a few side chat messages to the rest of the server saying there was no point playing on that server as the admins essentially will just cheat to win. That's just one example but their other decent severs out there with decent admins who don;t abuse their powers. I wouldn't let hackers stop you playing the game, just change server. Edited May 3, 2013 by tajjuk
herrjon 478 Posted May 3, 2013 tajjuk, I know at least one of those examples wasn't a hacker, and a couple others could not have been too.The large number of heli crashes is due to the server taking a long time to restart. They spawn over the lifetime of the server now and not just all at once at the start, so if it doesn't restart daily, you end up getting all those crash sites. Was the next one on a private hive? A lot of the private hives like to kick up the number of vehicle spawns to ridiculous amounts, seen one with 7,000, no joke. So you'll sometimes see large groups of vehicles in weird places, or people will horde them, like that kid probably was. If not could've been admin abuses. Skat3rat 1633 Posted May 3, 2013 For the most part hackers are still quite a big issue on public hives. As other have said, Private Hives do have a lot of abusive admins and ones that abuse their admin tools. However not all private hives have abusive admins. Two good Private Hives I suggest are,Balota Buddies, http://balotabuddies.net/ which is my favorite private hive. Great community and great admins.Or you can check out http://dayzca1.com/ which is run by a good friend of mine.
RabidDiabetic 63 Posted May 3, 2013 Hey guys sorry I forgot I made this post and forgot to check back. Well after a few days played jumping back and forth between a few public servers and a private hive I really like I haven't come across any hackers. I can say this is FAR better than the last time I played. I read a lot about abusive admins lately (LaughingMan) and I am pretty sure the ones I have are cool. The only time I've seen them spawn in items was to replace items lost in like a server crash once and as prizes for participating in one of the events they hosted. TL;DR Seems to be less hacking and I plan to stick around!Rabid

RabidDiabetic 63 Posted May 6, 2013 It can be a little odd when Sara gets drunk and sings on mumble... But she's still a good admin :P
joinnkakashi@gmail.com 31 Posted May 6, 2013 I think in my entire Day Z career I have encountered one hacker and maybe one "Hacker" attempted. I logged on to a server and everyone was screaming to log off. and really the hack that I did encounter was the Gangnam Style on for 30 or so seconds

If not could've been admin abuses. The many chopper crashes you could be right, not sure when the server had re-started. It was a public hive one though and I had been playing on it recently. The trucks were on a private hive yes, could have been hackers or admin spawn in, It wasn't naturally occurring (think it was a 200 vehicle server) as they were rammed full of loot in very high numbers, plus there was a weapon crate there full of every weapon in the game. It was either a a hacker base or an admin base because no group of players can bring in weapon crates like that. The helicopters, trucks etc. suddenly appearing in a field was definitely hacking, the kid was even bragging about it. asavirus 0 Posted May 7, 2013 Also thinking about starting up again, hacking was the main reason I stopped playing in the first place.
RabidDiabetic 63 Posted May 7, 2013 Also thinking about starting up again, hacking was the main reason I stopped playing in the first place.I say do it, find a private hive you like and enjoy. I don't join many public hives at all anymore so if there are still hackers there I don't see them. I just grabbed a private hive I like and I only play there. No hackers and the game is fun for me again. Feel free to join up asavirus, server is in my sig.Rabid
