Do you actually get better preformance recording to a SSD?

Recommended Posts

I saw a video a while back explaining that FRAPS records better onto a SSD than onto a HDD. I'm looking into building a gaming computer at the end of this year, and am probably going to get something like a Seagate 1TB Barracuda ($70 CAD), but I don't know if it is really worth it to purchase something like a Corsair Force GT SATA III 240GB SSD ($220 CAD).

P.S. I'm kinda 'letting loose' here, so everything is gonna be maxed the fuck out, and I hope to be recording at around 50-60fps. My only worry is that with a HDD I might get hiccups recording at a higher FPS.

Any help would be much appreciated.

An SSD will offer you better performance all around. Not just for recording but all read/write operations.

I think the investment is worth it once you see how responsive your system will be.

If money is a concern, get yourself a smaller SSD drive, keep only essential items such as your OS and your most popular game(s) on it. Then get a cheap conventional drive for your bulk storage.

Theres not many systems out there that can max this game. Even my I5 3570k, SSD, and GTX 660 TI lag quite a lot in certain areas. occasionally. Don't expect to be able to fully max out the game. And if you want to record, my personal advice is dxtory, which does not impact your performance short of maybe 3 or 4 frames.

Bought a Samsung 840 pro 256GB, I can say it definately helps in load times and large file transfers. But it won't really increase FPS unless you have a trash drive before you upgrade, quick load times are nice but if you want more for your money it's probably better spent elsewhere.
