solving rockets "there not zombies" problem and other suggestions

Recommended Posts

I was listening to some presentation rocket did and how he mentioned he once though of AI as not zombies or did not want to

so I started think of this in terms of the walking dead, where zombies are not a concept and survivors must figure out how to kill them.

I think this could help build the imerssion if say, the zombie weakspot was randomized, i know currently you can kill them by shooting them any where but what if a "critical zone" was established, IE the server randomly selected the brain, or heart, or somthing as rediculious as the foot, as the "one shot one kill, money shot" This would cause players to have to "learn" the rules of the zombie appoclypes potentially every time they join a new server.

other awsome random settings

zombifaction "random if every one is infected and can turn on death, weather its spread by bites , scratches ect."

slow death of players with zombifaction, problem for other players

purposely infecting others: if the server decides one needs to be infected to zombify, an intresting mechanic could be to allow players to inject each other witha syrnge causing a slow zombifcation process, possibility of allowing a tainted cross bow /arrow bolts could be amusing too.

more realistic consumption of food /water:

I know the offical us guide for water consumption is about 8-10 litters a day, the standard operation proceduer is one litter every hour your awake, additional an mre is only about 2000 calories (though they can vary) given you would likely be using a high ammount of calories a day you would likely need to consume more then one of these, the point I am getting at, is that food and water seem to depleet at too slow of a rate (this also increase the player vs enviormetn vs self tension)

The zombification thing has been suggested many times before, and no, its likely it won't be added.

Good points. I always felt that, in the traditional sense of "zombies" and to make the game more "zombie apocalypse" relevant, the zombies should: 1) always require a headshot to be "immobilized"; 2) turn the survivor into an AI zombie upon a "bite or scratch".

The game is about survival and the stakes should feel very high. But after playing the game enough, the zombies presently seem more of a pest than a threat. But if a survivor knew that a "zombie strike" - even one, meant inevitable "zombification" - then that would definitely make even the most seasoned players a bit more hesitant to go on "speed looting sprees" and bring the game back to its core: zombies.

The overwhelming PvP would be less "shoot on sight" because of the greater threat of a zombie bite/scratch.

Zombies also should not always be audible. If you weren't always "tipped off" by a zombie moan/growl in the area, then the fright/threat level automatically would rise.

So, basically turning off some of the zombie moans, and making a zombie strike "fatal" would really bring this game back to it's core intention: Zombie Survival.

well its more about making the players learn the rules of the zombie appoclyps apposed to anything else

you have a good point here I have never seen a video game with a feature along the lines of, you cant kill them unless its a head shot.
