The Road to DayZ (Part 2): Questions, Answers, and Requests

<How well armed were the FSP members?>

Before or after?

<Before>

It wasn't incredible. Surplus M16s and hunting rifles, home-made explosives. Old camo paint and imported cars.

<After?>

After the riots, or after the dead-that-walk were eating Russia?

<Just before the president finally admitted the existence of the Plague and declared a state of emergency>

I remember that night well. i was on the Ukrainian border with a carte of anti-tank mines, and a bottle of Vodka was being pased around. A raid in Volga left plenty of cheese and, as you Americans say, "Sour Cream." Very delicious meals. First time I got to use a Midnight Special.

<A what?>

The Midnight Special, designed by Jackson Pride himself. Inglorious sonfa...

<More specific details, please?>

It was an An-94 with the last fourth of the barrel replaced with a suppressor. And the action was modified to work more like an Ak-107, I guess, with pistons firing in opposite directions, throwing the weight around. The blow-back pushed the telescoping bolt back, and bled some of the gas out of the back of the gun. This made the gun pretty quiet even without the barrel modification, and the bolt cycled very quickly. You couldn't miss a 2-round burst if you tried.

<Does this AN-94 fire an American or Russian cartridge?>

Neither; Jackson invented his own ammo, too: A fragmenting, subsonic bullet that could pierce triple-diamond Kevlar at three hundred feet, and a Zed's skull at 500. Two-shot bursts could drop anything short of a cow.

<You said that was the first time you saw one?>

Ja.

<Have you used one extensively?>

Ja.

<Can you tell me more about it?>

Ja.

<Will you?>

Does your tape recorder work?

<Yes>

Will you share this story? I would like you to.

<Like... a book?>

Ja.

<I'll see what I can do>

-END OF PROLOGUE-

Thanks for reading. I hope to write a book someday and this is the prologue. My story does not take place in the "DayZ" universe, nor does it work on DayZ's principles of "Infected" rather than the "Undead." I appreciate your reading.

Have you ever read World War Z by Max Brooks? The person talking in <...> is an interviewer.
