Salvation City Strikes Back

Recommended Posts

I logged onto Orgins alone. I didn't feel like co-ordinating with a team as I had been killed the previous night and my team wouldn't back me up and I was doing quite well.

I had bumped into 2 players the first, sadly, was a new spawn. I don't kill on site, instead I stalked him till he entered a house. I ran up to the side of the house to ask over direct chat if he was friendly. At this moment he put his back up against the wall, gun pointing to the door and stayed quiet.

I asked a couple more times and added, "If you do not reply I will kill you".

Still no reply... I don't think he noticed he was crouched in the corner with a massive window on his left. Good night.

I returned to my duties... I had found a big van that only needed a wheel, engine parts and some fuel so I was scavenging around concentrating on industrial buildings.

I found some scrap metal that the van could be using, it didn't require it but I'll take it.

While scouting around the edge of the town I spotted what looked like a helicopter tail protruding from a tree. I thought, "hmmm, that's strange". On closer inspection a Huey revealed itself. Looked like someone accidentally parked the poor thing in a tree.

SCORE!!

The chopper had fuel, windows, engine parts, bear traps, ammo and some morphine! - all that was left was to find a wheel.

I ran back to the van with my loot, haphazardly chucking it into the back. It was just here I remembered, YOU NEED A TOOL BOX YA DUMMY!

I went back out on the prowl. I had spotted a large warehouse that looked ripe for the looting, but I wasn't the only one with that idea. Just as I get to the perimeter wall, as if out of nowhere, a bandit rears his head.

I employed the same method of communication with the bandit, getting as close to the warehouse as I could but staying outside the perimeter wall... "Are you friendly?".

I moved closer and closer to the entrance of the complex that housed the warehouse. As I ask again over direct if he is friendly he comes bursting out of the doors on an intercept course straight at me.

With no time to think I raise my weapon. He speeds though the gate and takes a left, now he is running straight at me!

The dinner bell rings as my enfield punches a hole in his stomach, he seeks cover while hemorrhaging all over the place and dukes in behind a wall.

Now he replies!

"Friendly! Friendly!" he screams.

I assure him that I am also friendly and in a show of good faith I run out in his direct line of sight just 5 meters in front of him with my gun lowered, he doesn't return fire. "Phew!", I think to myself.

He requested blood and I had picked some up from the chopper but I had totally forgot I left it in the van, and there is no chance I'm letting anyone else know I have a vested interest in that van. Lucky for him though there is a hospital near by.

We headed into the warehouse I first spotted him in and he stood still while I applied the blood bag to him, making sure that I didn't step into his direct LOS I applied the bag from behind.

After blooding the bandit I looked around and there they were, the final parts required to complete the van.

As we ready to part ways I hear him scream one more time followed by that proverbial snap! A few rogue zombies got him in the legs, I turn back and hold them off while he uses his morphine.

"Server restart in 10 minutes"

I hang around till the server is back up and running. I had logged out on top of a rock that was resting on the side of a hill keeping over watch for a few minutes to make sure the coast is clear then head down to do up the van.

I just can't wait t'get on that road again!

With only one jerry can I was going to have to find a source of fuel, preferably not in a town that players spawn in.

The only explanation I have for what follows is that the inhabitants of Salvation City decided to get their own back:

They attacked me on my own.

3 helicopters against a lone survivor. Not honorable in the slightest.

As soon as I could, I headed back to base camp. Grabbing the essentials I get a friend online to regroup at our chopper.

The damn thing wouldn't fly, we had intentionally sabotaged it to make sure that no one would make off with it in the night. We just forgot that without the correct parts, we were also grounded.

We spent the next hour or so scrimping around for some scrap metal and a spare rotary assembly. It didn't take us long to find the scrap metal we needed but those specialist parts took a keen eye, a steady hand and bucket loads of patience.

Finally!

We had the pieces we needed but we still had to make it back to the chopper.

We had set up camp in the middle of nowhere so re-spawning was just not an option.

Sticking to the road least traveled, the trees were our best cover. Only one other survivor spotted but it was of no consequence to us, ghosts in the forest, we wanted no attention.

We had landed the chopper just off the side of a road cutting through a dense part of woodland, in a small clearing. Even the most experienced pilot would have normally avoided this landing spot but needs must.

The rotor was badly damaged, even before we sabotaged it the chopper grazed a tree. Upon repairing the rotor (and pulling a few rogue branches from the air intake vents) and instruments the chopper was in a condition where it should get off the ground and as long as those instruments were okay we shouldn't have any close encounters with the trees again.

Success... take off!

Time to get revenge on those that would attack me!
