Another fun poll with Doug, this time Id be interested to know how many of you out there are playing on public hive servers, versus, people who play on private hive servers. Or both. Simple enough right? If I'm to have a crack here and now, before the results come in, Id say the majority of you guys are on privates. But anyway lets find out.

If you haven't voted in my previous poll: [Experiment POLL] % of people with a .50 cal sniper. Lets find out.

vote here if you can spare the time, cheers:

Also Iv enable multiple choice, so If you play all of them, select all of them

GO!

Private since i hate server hopping for loot. In my early dayz i would be sniped (killed or simply shot at) by snipers almost every time in cities regardless of how sneaky i was but since being on private servers i have only been sniped at once since the DMRs etc are not so easy to come by and ammo too. Never going back to public, yuck!

I like the feel of public servers which is more official like and I suppose ... traditional. For now however I have been burnt too many times by hackers while the admins were in game - sometimes while playing with an admin. Of course, admins cannot prevent all or even most hacking and that is no fault of theirs. I guess the hacking deaths gave me a bitter taste that has yet to go away. At present I admin and mod a private server, and while sometimes it feels like I am hiding from the main stream DayZ crowd, it gives me a rare opportunity to explore and get to know all available maps, and to meet some really good fellow DayZ players. Essentially, I would not mind administrating for a public hive server, but from what I have seen and heard, it is a 24/7 job and I like to play as much as tinker with features and code. Then again, running a private server is non stop activity as well ... fiddling with code hooks, anti-cheat software, reading logs, etc.

I play on our own public server mostly, but like Saethkept already said, admining has become a full time job most of the times. Has become sort of routine as well before I actually start playing I do a scan of all the logs, ban all hackers and then start playing. This process repeats itself while I'm playing as well. On the other hand it does give me alot of satisfaction knowing I 'saved' alot of players' lifes ingame by banning a hacker before he/she could do maximum damage.

You'll find a majority will be in Private servers, due to the issues of hacking forcing them to move to Whitelisted servers.

Not to mention that once you're there, you become part of that specific community.
