High ping when playing Dayz.

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I know this is a problem that has been asked here before, but I can't seem to find a good answer. I always have ping above my other friends when I play Dayz. While they have 50ish, I have 150 and so on. I've check that if I'm downloading anything or the like and I can't find anything that is using any bandwidth.

The servers we join are near us (Europe).

My internet connection is 12Mbit / 1Mbit and it should suffice. I'm using a wifi connection from the house next to me as we share internet together and I have about 30% signal strength. I know this isn't the very best, but in every other game I play and other internet activities I use I always get to use the max of my connection.

I've tried to disable the firewall, but to no avail.

My Dayz version is 1.7.6.1 and my ARMA version is 103419.

Her is my CanYouRunIt results: http://img855.imageshack.us/img855/6438/spccs.png

The main reason I'm asking about the ping is because my FPS is very low when playing this game. I suspect the ping might have something to do with that.

Any suggestions as to what happens?

I believe FPS has nothing to do with the ping. Ping usually contributes to lag. Like seeing players rubberband. Syncing issue usually. Just try to make your connection better. Arma maps are pretty big. Maybe Arma 2 uses more bandwidth b/w the client and server than your other games.

I ran a test a little while ago, showing how much bandwidth DayZ uses. It's a hungry boy.

That could be your issue. Also, make sure you're not seeding any torrents, or running anything else. And check that your neighbour (or whomever is sharing your network) isn't catching up on the latest Bieber video tweets either.

Check out my tests. On average, DayZ will go through 1Gb of data per hour (up +down combined)
