JorisK 3 Posted June 19, 2012 Hi,I think one of the biggest reason people will not rent or host a dedicated server is the fact that there are a lot of costs but almost not a single advantage for the admin. It is known that the is a lack of real fast and good servers. Once a server is known to be very good it is populated 50/50 all the time! Why would i buy a fast dedicated server and co-locate it somewhere if i don't even have the ability to play on it?I.m.h.o there should be something like an extra 3/4/5 slots availible for admins if the server reaches it's max capicity. trucksandtrains 2 Posted June 19, 2012 On a 40 or 50 slot server there are people leaving / joining all the time. I never have trouble connecting to my server that stays full all through the daylight hours. I host the server because I love Rockets mod and I want to support the DayZ community all whilst making sure I have a stable, up to date home server for my clan. I'm hosting with Vilayer.com and its ~£30 for 50 slots, which is almost a third cheaper than hosting a battlefield 3 server. Our server runs at 20% cpu and ram, and never saturates its bandwidth.EDIT: Battlefield 3 servers only just got VIP slots this month, and that game came out last year! JeffCraig 1 Posted June 19, 2012 rocket addressed this, more or less, in a prior forum thread:http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=3593While we do want to have some "reserved slots" this effectively requires either a lot of scripting or changes to the base game code. It's something we all want, but it's basically up to BIS to implement it at the Arma 2 level. rocket has enough on his plate right now and if he has to do it himself, it probably won't be till later in alpha, or even beta. We've all discussed this here before. I don't think it needs to be re-hashed.
