Why use Teamspeak?

I don't know if I'm missing something but why would you use teamspeak when you can use Skype which is free? Basically does the same thing.

Teamspeak is used for organization with large groups. If you have a group of, say, 6 friends, but 2 of them want to discuss music, and everyone else is trying to talk about video games, they can go into their own channel. That way nobody is talking over each other.

It also allows people to drop in and out as they please.

I think TS's servers are better than Skype's connectivity also.

Yup, as Rage said. TS comes into it's own when large groups that need organising are involved. For example, a gaming community can have many channels for different games and sub-channels for various teams within those games.

Because I don't want to stay in a chat with a bunch of idiots sometimes. Plus I like the voice detection. Doesn't pick up most of my background noise.
