Noob Question about Saving game from a NewBie :)

Recommended Posts

I havnt played dayZ yet , just watching some videos to learn the basics but I havnt came accross what will happen when I leave a server ?

Whether my inventory will reset after disconnecting a server and have to start all over again or there are some save points in map?

All servers automatically 'save' when you log out, just like any MMO like WoW.

If you play on a public server your items will be available on any other public server and you will log in exactly where you logged out.

Private servers are the same but the gear is tied to that server only.

It's normally hard to tell but public servers must have a certain naming convention although most private hives/servers follow the same rules so it's a bit awkward to tell.

I recommend a private server, public servers tend to have a lot of hackers which ruins it a bit for me.

I play on a hive called Balota Buddies, it's quite fun - if you check out the Private Hive section of the forum there are loads of servers advertised, give it a check and see if there is anything that takes your fancy.

use DayZ commander.not only is it easy to manage your updates,it has a good, intuitive interface.

It will show you which servers are private in the server list. The ones with a cloud icon crossed out are private (They're not connected to the main, public hive).

-snip-

I'd suggest you only play on public servers; private servers tend to have very abusive admins, who teleport around, cheat in gear, and kill you or ban you from the server if you're better than them. I'm not over-exaggerating.

Public servers do face the potential issue of a script-kiddy joining and using cheats to do very much the same things, but it's as simple as hitting ALT + F4 to disconnect before you're killed. If the server gets laggy, you can join another server without losing all your crap.

How to tell a private server from a public server:

Usually private servers have dumb names, like "Chernarus Pro Only" or "Factions Raid PvP 200+ vehicles 3P enable"

Private servers are run by jerks that can't play the game right; they modify the mission.sqf or .pbo to make more vehicles spawn than normal, more loot than normal, and disable the day/night cycle. Private servers are leeches that suck the blood from DayZ. The concept behind them is flawed, and Rocket should have never allowed them to open.

<sarcasm>Someone clearly has an unbiased opinion about private servers.</sarcasm>

There are several good private servers with good admins and vanilla/lightly changed DayZ.

Private servers are pretty much the only way to play at the moment if you actually want to get anywhere, the public hive has far too many cheaters.

I've only witnessed 2 mass server killings/serious hacking events, neither of which hurt me, on public servers. The only times I've been hacker killed have been private servers.
