difficulty being self sufficiant

Recommended Posts

greetings I have been playing dayZ for about a month now every week or so for about 4-5 hours I tend to either neglect food/water or getting a weapon to survive, or medication to be able to heal myself. What is the best way to make sure I fulfill all of these roles?

Online maps are very helpful when searching for places to loot. DayZDB also tells you the chance of an item spawning and where it spawns, if you're looking for something specific.

When you enter a city, hit the military spawns first. You always need protection in this game. If you find a hatchet, always pick it up. You'll run into zombies more often then players, and its a one hit killing machine. After you have armed yourself, make for the general store. Here you will try to find food, drink, other general items. But more importantly, you need to hopefully find a bigger bag. A bigger bag opens a lot of doors for you. After you hit the general store, move on to the next city and repeat. Or just loot everything else in the city.

Get the hunting knife, matches and hatchet. Killing animals yields a shit laod of meat that can last ages, cook it, keep some in your back pack. Get a drink bottle to refill too. Once you have those you dont need to rely on finding food cans and drink by luck....although animals can be a bit difficult however once you get one the food is plenty for a while.

Learn where water pumps are to refill your water bottle too!

Until you get those items you'll have to make regular runs to the supermarkets etc. Risky business but its what you gotta do. Once you get that gear you can hang in the woods with your tent and car much longer ;)

Play with someone, doesn't have to someone you know irl. Just get to know someone in the game or ask someone in the forum, use skype or join a ts server and you're set. Playing alone rarely works out, even if it does.. Is it fun? I never enjoy playing this game by myself, so incredibly boring that way.

Edit: Also you do need someone else to give you a transfusion so if you don't then you'd have to trust a COMPLETE stranger to do it, i'd say there's a big chance you'd be shot on sight or when you're crouching for him to give you one.
