New server admin looking for some help

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I just recently bought a server thinking it would be something nice and easy but its not lol... i recently bought a 40 man server and i am looking for a few things that i need step by step help with if anyone would be nice enough to give me a hand.

-i need help with trying to keep all spawn points to the coast, alot of people complaining about being in the woods

-weapons do not seem to be spawning in main places like army tents, firehouse's, schools, barns, etc. (all weapons are spawned in cars pretty much)

-what addons/scripts do i need to run a sufficient server

-the proper way to roll back a server after a hacker joins and ruins everything.

-auto-restart with MOTD saying a countdown ("server restarts in 30 min" "server restart in 5 min" etc..)

i would like to keep the server as close to an original dayz game as possible, just do some tweeking to get players to stay

i have been googling and trying to look things up i guess i just cant get the concept of what people are saying :(

Good, do you have FTP access to the server as well? (ie, you can edit dayz_mission and dayz_server)

You can change the spawn points by creating way points in the editor, and editing your dayz_mission.pbo to spawn at those way points.

Weapons not spawning? Never heard that one.......

DayzCC is decent tool for administering. There are tons of them out there, but you can administer it without any.... anything else just makes your life easier. I would suggest BEC... its nice. TSW is also another nice admin tool.

If your server host does not do daily backups on the database, I would highly suggest that you do so. You can do this manually (i would suggest stepping over to w3schools or somewhere and getting a quick primer on sql) or you can write a php script (or whatever language that allows sql) to do it for you. At least this is the way that I do backups.

BEC (mentioned above) allowed for the restarts (it has a scheduler).... with messages (you can add whatever messages to display at whatever time you want. Like I say I would suggest using this.

I would suggest (for scripting things) that opendayz (google it), as there is a larger community of folks scripting for this game there.

Awesome thanks... ill defiantly look into these things...

with the waypoints i have to name them ceter, respawn_west sapwn0,spawn1,spawn2,spawn3,spawn4 correct? and the center goes anywhere center of the map along the coast and, and respawn_west goes to the west side of the map ? like kamenka, and then the spawns anywhere between there ?

No, you will place markers ..... the name is irrelevent (they will be changed to item0, item1 ... etc) .... then there is a bit of coding you have to do to get them to work.

There is a thread on opendayz about it =)

Routine DB backups and attentive pruning of script execution logs (to catch and mitigate damage that has already been done) can go a long way in thwarting any real damage from being dealt by the script kiddies that parade around as wannabe hackers. Make sure you sync up with the official DayZ ban list and utilize the DayZ anti-hax addon to catch basic server attacks (i.e. vehicle/item spawning, etc.).

I would recommend going in the direction of a whitelist only private server but that's just my own personal opinion. The reason for this is because you can have fine-grained control over who enters your server and thus manage the type and quality of the community you are trying to grow. You can also more effectively deal with combat logging and you don't have to worry about conforming to the standard public server rules (if you think, for example, that the number of vehicles in vanilla DayZ is rather sparse or if, in another example, you wish to ban the AS50 as you find it to be rather overpowered or out of place).

The downside is that some people are too lazy to go through the process of joining a whitelist only private community but at the same time, the point could also be made that you probably wouldn't want non-proactive players leaching server slots anyways.

Tip: Do not whitelist a brand new server, you need to gain popularity and a community before whitelisting

Unless WhiteListing is your selling point :P

Hello all,

I just recently bought a server thinking it would be something nice and easy but its not lol... i recently bought a 40 man server and i am looking for a few things that i need step by step help with if anyone would be nice enough to give me a hand.

1)-i need help with trying to keep all spawn points to the coast, alot of people complaining about being in the woods

2)-weapons do not seem to be spawning in main places like army tents, firehouse's, schools, barns, etc. (all weapons are spawned in cars pretty much)

3)-what addons/scripts do i need to run a sufficient server

4)-the proper way to roll back a server after a hacker joins and ruins everything.

5)-auto-restart with MOTD saying a countdown ("server restarts in 30 min" "server restart in 5 min" etc..)

i would like to keep the server as close to an original dayz game as possible, just do some tweeking to get players to stay

i have been googling and trying to look things up i guess i just cant get the concept of what people are saying :(

1) dayz_server.pbo\compile\player_Setup.sqf. Set "_coastSpawn" to "1" (The new spawn locations are part of 1.7.6.0, you can revert back to original spawns simply by changing the coast spawn value to 1. No need to setup new spawn locations like others mentioned above!)

2) no idea...

3) no idea what you mean...

4) backup your MySQL database. Use tools from your GSP, or use one of the many MySQL backup programs.

5) Battleye Extended Controls - www.ibattle.org Use BEC's scheduler.xml to schedule server messages and execute your restart.bat (or use your control panels auto restart function to restart the server and sync it with your BEC warning messages)
