Sandmnbakery 2 Posted March 19, 2013 (edited) In a developer blog post, on announcement forums for the 8th of March, a member commented that Rocket and the team had talked about implementing dogs into the game (possibly as AI companions). He also mentioned that the developers were considering having items 'remember' what had happened to them for a short time, and which player effected those changes. This opens up a new world of tracking and hunting other players. A dog could, theoretically, smell a discarded can and pick up the code of the player; aka the scent. The dog could then track their trail and eventually come to the players location with his owner in tow. This would not only work for hunting players but also for finding lost comrades Perhaps they would leave a can of beans on the ground and your dog could track them down through scent. Instead of people 'cheating' and using Facebook and other social media sites to communicate where to find each other.I think it would add a layer of depth to the game and so would sincerely like for this feature to be implemented. Please leave a comment about what you think or any other features that could come from this.I would just like to give credit, the poster's name was rassad. TheBambiAvenger 146 Posted March 19, 2013 This sounds like a cool idea, I like how you can have a massive manhunt for one person on a server.
terminal_boy 860 Posted March 19, 2013 Would the advantage of having a four-legged AI pal to track others be balanced by having said canine bark when it detects a survivor or zombie?
pizza duck5 5 Posted March 19, 2013 Yeah so then the strategy for hunting someone would be to shoot your own dog before he barks and makes too much noise.
TIC 1050 Posted March 19, 2013 (edited) I'd like to see if a player was attacked and was bleeding, they could leave small to moderate traces of blood that could stain the ground. More fresh blood makes it easier to track and makes it apparent that players were recently around or even footprints from muddy areas and such from rain.
