Somewhat new player seeking advice

Recommended Posts

so i have been playing dayz for about a week or 2 now, jumping from server to server trying to settle in, but not finding anything ideal

so was wondering:

could anybody recommend a really good server, or at least 1 that fits my preferences (that being no sniper spawns, but still getting to spawn with a pistol and maybe some tools. has a decent amount of vehicles that dont require alot of time to get working and pvp welcome but not required)

also would like to try something with new features, been hearing alot about AI and more vehicles/buildings/guns etc aswell as other new features i know nothing about

Also, anybody got a recommended controller configuration? I have mine set up pretty well but i still have to use keyboard and mouse for some things like arranging my inventory and so on

Thanks in advance, and im sorry if this is in the wrong place?

Hey dude, http://aowdayz.com/ . Awesome server, you don't spawn with anything different, but it is not too hard to get geared. The server has custom bases, and new buildings in certain areas. Send me a PM and I will show you around it a little bit. Hope you stop by, have fun!

This is the correct place for it, don't worry :-)

I've been playing on a Server with slight modified DayZ Version without any 3rd-party Downloads. Although it doesn't remove Weapons, it does have other thing's your interested in such as more Vehicles. Atop of that, the Admin's are always friendly & often update the Script's or add more in. Can't remember the name (I usually use DayZ Commander and I'm currently on my Laptop rather then Desktop), though if you search for 'PR' you should be able to find it.

Some of the additions are thing's like Towing / Lifting broken vehicles (Goes well with added vehicles) and a few others. I'd suggest you check it out, at least, it's quite fun.

You will be luck if you find a server that has custom loot tables, most just use the standard DayZ loot tables.

I would recommend downloading DayZ Commander (there is a link on the home page of this site) and checking out some of the other DayZ maps/private hives... they will be your best bet for custom load outs and custom loot tables, but you will be stuck on that server as it will not be part of the public hive, so if you play there you cannot carry your gear over to another server.

thanks for the responses, i will definatly check them servers out

was looking on here for some new private hives to join so im making a list

and yeah i have always used dayz commander, and so far have tried a few maps like lingor island, but for now gonna stick to chernarus while i find my way around. just got lost in the north of the map lol

so how do you play normally? just go into the dayz game then multiplayer? and then you can jump from server to server? and do all the official servers have basic start equipment? (no gun, no tools, just a torch and bandage)

Lastly, ive noticed there is dayz, dayz+, dayz origins, and probably more, are they just different maps? or are they different in some other way?

DayZ is just that, Vanilla DayZ...

These run on a public hive (altough there are private hives for it too) so if you are playing on an official server you are always gonna start with the same stuff, and all the loot tables will be the same for each server. Upside is you can switch servers and keep your gear.

DayZ+: This is a slightly different version of DayZ, I quite like it. It is set in the same place but every server will be on a private hive (i.e. you cant switch server and keep your stuff)

DayZ Origins: Technically nothing to do with DayZ. This is apparently a mod of it's own heavily based on DayZ. This mod uses the Taviana map (personally my favourite map) which is over 600km^2 (over 600 square kilometers, compaired to the 225km^2 of Chernarus). The map has lots of custom vehicles that look like the have been made by survivors, including a helicopter tha has been put together from parts of other vehicles and scrap. Some of these vehicles are "upgradable" I believe, but I've never done it myself

Most of the other DayZ mods on commander offer different play styles, Namalsk is small, has lots of high value military and has a customer "monster" and Psy emissions, heavily based on the serise of games S.T.A.L.K.E.R if I am correct.

I havn't played all of the mods so I won't comment on them all.

A note on private/public hives:

A private hive is basically an unofficial hive that anyone can download and install on their server, but if you log on to one of these servers you start a new character that is only availabe on that server.

There are private hives that allow you to move between servers and keep your gear but they are all hosted by the same company. I was playing on a few Namalsk servers that were all on a "hostnamehere.com" hive but if you stop playing on a server hosted by "hostnamehere.com" then you would need to start a new character.

Public hive: As far as I'm aware these are only availabe on the main DayZ official servers.

For more info on some of the maps available you can check you www.dayzdb.com although I would recommend using some form of add blocker while on this site or close it down when you are in game because they now have annoying video adverts that will start playing audio while you are in game... many a time I have shat myself haha.
