How to stop the backpack monster

Recommended Posts

Was doing some experimenting last night and I discovered why items (guns, etc) sometimes seem to disappear from your bag when you log off.

It seems that your backpack inventory doesn't save (to the hive) when moving to/from an external container (such as a loot pile, ammo can, etc).

So if you loot an object from a pile directly to your backpack, and then log off, it will not be saved. You can force your bag's inventory to save by moving an item to or from your bag. I tested this for a while last night and found it to be true 100% of the time.

Are you sure it's not related to the massive rollbacks?

I had my character rolled back 15+ minutes multiple times in the last few days. Luckily it rolled back my tents too so I didn't lose stuff I had switched around. I'm not sure why. I figure there was some connection failure with hive that still let me mess with all the items?

I was messing around for a while moving stuff between tents and a vehicle, and if I moved from the tent to my bag and then disconnected, it did not save. If I moved anything to/from the bag to my main inventory, it saved. I tested it probably 5 times each way, and every time I only moved to the bag, it didn't save, every time I moved an item to/from my main inventory after, it did save. I don't think it's related to the rollbacks - I think there is a bug in the code (or missing code) causing the bag not to save on moving to/from a pile.

I have no problems moving stuff between my tent and bag and it saving. I do it just before every time I log off.

Directly from tent to bag with no interaction between the bag and your main inventory? Maybe the bug is exclusive to the server I was testing on, but I was able to duplicate it 100% of the time.
