I cannot pick up backpacks, only drop them

Recommended Posts

Can someone please advise how I pick up backpacks? I tried dropping my starting coyote pack for an alice pack and ended up losing them both (had to just leave them sitting there on the ground)

I looked at it and pressed enter but it only lets me take items out of it or put items in, no option that I can see for taking the whole pack with me.

Thanks

You need a primary weapon, once you have one click mouse3 away from it then hover over it.

If that fails go into first person, its been fucked since 1.6ish

If there are other items in the same stash you may need to take them before youre able to select the backpack. Also, you may need to find the perfect position, so try walking around a bit and move the aim around a bit.

Thats a far reach, sometimes it happens most of the time it doesnt. Only reliable way is to find a primary weapon even the forsaken crossbow.

Here is what I do when I find a backpack.

  • Mouse wheel over the new backpack and select Open Backpack.
  • Then in my own inventory window I mouse click on my current backpack and select 'Open bag'.
  • I move items from my bag into the new backpack on the ground using the left arrow key to the left of the items listed in top left window of inventory.
  • I then close my own bag using 'Close Bag'.
  • Close your Inventory window by hitting 'G' or close.
  • Use mouse wheel to target the New backpack and select Take Backpack.
  • This will then pick up the new backpack and it will already have all your items in it from the old one.
  • Your old backpack will now be on the ground.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Upon finding a new backpack be aware of these things:

- Backpacks are very sketchy with positioning for the Take/Open function

- If there are items under it, you may need to move them before accessing the Take/Open function

- 3rd person can easily skew your aim and you man not be looking at it at all

- Upon taking the backpack, none of your prior pack's gear will be retained in it, you must move it manually

And remember, Patrol Pack(Coyote)

That's right. The exact same steps always worked for me.
