bad_mojo (DayZ) 1204 Posted March 11, 2013 Imagine battleye was effective from the start, and hacking didn't get out of hand. Do you think Rocket still would/should have allowed private hives?Should he continue to allow private hives in standalone, even if hacking is minimal?(Sorry if this is considered private hive discussion, move it if needed. I felt it was more general.)
Sozinho 58 Posted March 11, 2013 Yes, they help prevent combat logging because you can't alt+f4 and go to another server and have all your gear still
zombiekiller777 10 Posted March 11, 2013 In a conference, he said that there will be private hives and only the hardcore servers will share across like how official ones are now. but the hardcore ones will be like official servers but will be run by community if that makes sense. applejaxc 2500 Posted March 11, 2013 At this point, because everything required for a private server is already out, Rocket couldn't take that power away from us without some bullcrap like tagging official servers with an ID that has to be interpreted correctly to join, and releasing an update for DayZ to interpret that update...Although you could just not update your DayZ and continue private hives. reidloS doG 38 Posted March 11, 2013 Combat logging isn't much of a problem now with the things they have implemented to stop it. I think if hackers were gone, public servers would be doing ten times better. But hacking is a Arma problem, which is why I'm happy they are making DayZstandalone by themselves and not trying to import Arma 3 and figuring out that new set up. They can lock down the Arma 2 engine, but hacking is already a problem on Arma 3.
DubPlate 38 Posted March 11, 2013 You would have to ask Stapo I think it was who had the first private hive that i saw. I could be way off with that name though lol. Imo yes they would have still popped up any way.
bad_mojo (DayZ) 1204 Posted March 12, 2013 (edited) Yes, they help prevent combat logging because you can't alt+f4 and go to another server and have all your gear stillTo me that seems like a terrible way of preventing combat logging. As someone who likes the idea of a main hive, it feels like I'm being punished and my game is being ruined just to make it a bit more difficult for combat loggers.Basically, what you say is true, but I hope it's not the motivation for keeping private hives. In a conference, he said that there will be private hives and only the hardcore servers will share across like how official ones are now. but the hardcore ones will be like official servers but will be run by community if that makes sense. Thanks for the info, got a link to this conference? At this point, because everything required for a private server is already out, Rocket couldn't take that power away from us without some bullcrap like tagging official servers with an ID that has to be interpreted correctly to join, and releasing an update for DayZ to interpret that update...Although you could just not update your DayZ and continue private hives.Yeah, it was more of a hypothetical question. I know people will always be able to do whatever they want with the MOD. I was more interested in what the community thought should be done. Would private hives (without the hacking issue) be beneficial to the game? In the standalone when there is more control, will private hives be there just because people are so used to them? Do people want a main hive anymore?I watched it all go down, from DayZ single player being taboo, to Rocket fully supporting private hives in the aftermath of all the hacking & ddos attacks on the main hive. I can't help but feel like Rocket was forced into allowing private hives and probably doesn't actually want them to be part of DayZ. But, we all know if he came out and said as much, there would be uproar from the community since private hives ARE dayz to some people. Maybe I'm totally off the mark, but that's why I made this thread, to get opinions of those who haven't been around since day 0.i like private hives, its lets you explore the game in a different light without hurting your main hive reputation, heros get bored too!Good point, but at the same time I kind of disagree. I believe DayZ should be a place where your actions have consequences. I don't want people to act like a dick because they're not on their favorite server. Hetstaine 10852 Posted March 12, 2013 I really pray to the Lord of Fuck that server hopping and scripting is so low as too not really be too much of an issue in the SA. It was much cooler when your one char was the same guy across all servers. Atm it is quite the task keeping track of the which bandit/hero i have on which server. Logged on to check a dude last night ..had some guy i had logged off at NE airfield under a tree with a hatchet a tin of food and two tyres. Cannot even remember who the hell he is.
