Couple of Questions

Hey guys. I just started playing DayZ the other day and I had a pretty critical question to ask, as well as a few side questions. I would've searched for these, but didn't know what to search.

1. On the right hand side when looking for servers it talks about version. It says I have version 1.62, while it seems most servers have version 1.62.100296 or higher, making them unplayable for me, making my server search extremely frustrating. What does this version number represent? And how do I update to the latest version?

2. If I find a server I like, how do I find it again (i.e. search title)? I have found a filter option, but no search option.

3. From what I understand there are different maps. Does your character only save on servers that are located on the same map? How do I know what ones my character will continue on?

4. Also, I get this thing where I click on a server, and all the sudden servers (a lot of them) start disappearing. What do I do? What's going on?

From what I've played of this mod, I absolutely love it. The problem is just getting in game.

I believe your game version is out of date. I suggest you get Dayzcommander and update your arma 2 and dayz mod version through that.

Again, depends on if you are you are using Dayzcommander, you can either note down the IP or click the gold star beside it to add to favourites.

3. From what I understand there are different maps. Does your character only save on servers that are located on the same map? How do I know what ones my character will continue on?

Public servers will track your character on multiple servers whilst private server only stick to that one. Find out before you enter a server whether it's private.

Might be autofiltering to same version servers or nearby hosts.

1) The version number is simply the version of DayZ/Arma 2 that you have. I strongly recommend using DayZ commander. When you have DayZ commander open, in the top right, there should be Install/update. Click on that, and then DayZ Commander will update to the most recent version of DayZ and Arma 2. If your not using DayZ commander, well, you should.

2) On the top, next to "Servers" in DayZ commander, there is a search section. But if you find a server you like and have to leave, exit the server. Then, in DayZ commander, go to the recent section on the top. The most recent server, is obviously the one you were in last. Towards the far left of the server description, there is a star. If you click on the star, DayZ commander saves that server and puts it in your favorites section, which is on the top.

3) On public Chernarus servers, you character data will be saved across all public Chernarus servers. On all public Namalsk, Taviana, Lingor etc... servers, the same rules apply. Your public Chernarus server gear/data will NOT be saved on Namalsk map server, or any other non-Chernarus server or vice versa.

4) You might be filtering your server search browser.
