Byff's Blogz

Recommended Posts

We all know how a quick 5 minute job can turn into a 5 hour marathon so I've decided to write a small blog of my experiences.

I'm playing on the Fogeyz private hive server exclusively - Good bunch of people and a good mixture of vehicles/helicopters and extra buildings.

Byff's Blogz day#1

Myself and Mr Munny came across a Russian Mi-17 abandoned and in need of repair, VRotor, hull, Instr - not too much hard work - so we set about getting it airworthy again. It was only once we had it fully repaired that we noticed the main rotor was very close to a hillside and looked to be touching it. A plan was needed.

We figured that a vehicle would be able to "gently" push the heli over a touch, allowing a safe departure. Fortunately, we'd noticed a Land Rover earlier so went on a small run to bring it over, an hour later and the Landy was on site, ready to do it's work.

The gentle shoving yellowed it's condition a little, but it's all good to go, refueled and ready for some adventure.

Byff's Blogz day#2

Simple day today, just repair a Ural truck, move it to a new location and get some gear stashed away in it.

That was the plan, until I realised the Mi-17 needed fuel - boy does that thing take some filling up.

Filled her up and had a look for a Huey that I'd crashed earlier, figured it'd be easier to spot from the air. How wrong could you be !!! Basically, earlier I had landed a Huey quite safely and jumped out. I was quite surprised to find the chopper overtake me as it slid down a hillside and into a forest. It was damaged, but not a write off, so I either wanted to repair it or blow it up to force it's re-spawn. I looked all over the place and I just can't find it, so if I can't find it and I know where I crashed it, there's no chance of anyone stumbling across it.

Is that a challenge I wonder? All you budding treasure seekers out there are welcome to jump on the Fogeyz cherno server and have a look for it.

I also did a bit taxi'ing for WaCko and Ice7 so it's a good job the Russian flies fast, coast to NW in 2 minutes beats walking any day. Unfortunately, Munny, Ryan and Tobbes suffered a little set back when I accidently nose dived the Mi-17 into the sea when trying to do a top speed test. 380kmh we hit but I left it a little bit too late to pull up and it was a swim back to recover our gear on the respawn.

Quick edit to add: I got Hero skin today, nearly pooped my pants when he went "arghh" and the skin changed.

Byff's Blogz Day#3

Figured out that all this PvP is a bit beyond me. I got shot and I didn't have a clue from where or by what, so until I'm more confident in gun handling, I'll be sticking to a hatchet for zed defence and i'll primarily be playing a medic role. The Fogeyz are a good mix of survivors and PvP players but unfortunately, I wasn't in the teamspeak channel so technically classed as a bandit. I was a legitimate target.

On a positive note, I ran all the way back to where my dead body was and I was only missing my M14 and G17, but all my other supplies was still intact. I was informed that the players that had killed me had a black Gaz and a white pick-up plus they'd stolen my Landy so there must have been a few of them.

After recovering my gear, I ran off for a 7k run to get to an AH6X Little Bird helicopter through the woods. I made out the glint of a vehicle through the trees and it was a black gaz, empty but half full of fuel. A little further on and I found the white pick-up, with 6 wheels, engine parts, fuel tank parts, jerry cans, glass and loads of other stuff. With a full tank of fuel, it made the final 5k a lot easier and I feel that I've got my own back just a little bit.

Disaster....got back to the helicopter and it was destroyed !!!!

Looks like it's back to stalking the airfields for the re-spawns.

Byff's Blogz day#4

The hunt for a new helicopter continues. Found a smashed up little bird resting against a building, obviously, someone had an adventurous landing.

Luckily, I managed to get my hands on a tractor, the perfect tool for bouncing the chopper into a space just barely big enough for a take off. The hunt for spare parts took a bit longer than I'd hoped but its more or less repaired, just needs 2 glass and a scrap metal to complete then we can attempt a take off.

I'm going on holiday for a few weeks so I was prepared to risk flying it with a very high chance of death, after all, I only carry meds and a hatchet now. Despite the assistance of the Fogeyz, I just ran out of time and didn't get a chance to finish repairing it.

Someone else will have to be brave, but for now - it's holiday time.

Back from hols.

Byffs Blogz day#5

It's funny logging in after such a long break. All the things that you've memorised in certain locations have been moved and it's like starting out again from scratch.

Fortunately, the Fogeyz have been busy upping the vehicle count and there's now 300+ vehicles on the server so it wasn't long before I found a pick-up truck to get around easier.

A quick drive down to Balota airfield and there was a Little bird sitting waiting for me to fly away. Obviously just spawned in, it was all green with a full tank of fuel, so I used that to buzz the other airfields. OMG, so many helicopters, some in disrepair and some ready to go.

While flying around I saw a black SUV missing two wheels, so I hid the little bird away and set off to repair it.

No problems encountered at all so now I have a little bird and a SUV in my little "base". Will they still be there when I log back in tomorrow?

Byff's Blogz day#6

Little bird went missing, but the SUV was still there! While driving through the forests looking for a new camp, came across my favourite heli, the Huey. New camp set up with the Huey hidden a little run away from the SUV so they won't be found together.

Helped Cholay repair another Huey up at NWAF and found another little bird sitting on the Tarmac. Helicopter overload at the moment, so thought I'd take a chance on a very risky landing in the little bird. Got it down in one piece so that's 2 heli's and an SUV at my disposal.

Byff's Blogz day#7

The Fogeyz were trying to repair yet another helicopter at NWAF so took the Huey to assist. Always makes things easier being able to fly the map rather than drive/walk it.

While looking at the heli, it just disappeared! The admin checked and found it had been teleported by a hacker, so it was an instant ban for Mr FBI. The Huey was filled with Fogeyz and off we set for Kamenka to re-acquire the heli.

On route, my old friend Mr Munny came online who has a bit of a running battle with the Fogeyz, so I was asked to fly them to Cherno to help locate him. While flying along, a shot hit the engine and all except Grandpa Jimmy bailed out to hunt down the perpetrator.

We fly north to repair the engine, found the parts required and patched it up, before heading back down to Balota to pick up the Fogeyz. While hovering over the airfield, the Huey got hit again, but this time terminally and we went down. Dead!

Fortunately, my respawn was Balota, so within 2 mins and I was back to the crash site. I only had a flashlight and 2 bandages and I knew my killer was still in the vicinity, so I crept back stealthily and slowly. Hiding behind a tree, I could see a person hiding in a pine tree on the opposite side of the runway from me. I had no map or anything, so I tried my best to talk the Fogeyz in to his position. He managed to kill another person, Azreal I think, but he was soon found and killed. Once the kill message came up, I zig zagged to my body, recovered my gear and found cover. Thought it a good time to go for supper while things were good and logged out.

Overall, a good couple of days play. I still have a little bird and an SUV but lost a Huey.

Went to scout out the airfields for a replacement Huey. Up at NWAF I found what I thought was the Huey that got teleported the other day. Only needed a rotor assembly, so I was soon airbourne.

Been at work, so I've only popped on for 5 minutes each day to see if my hiding spot had been compromised. After 3 days, it has been found and stolen, but my SUV is still in its place, so that's good.

On Sunday, the Fogeyz are planning an event:

Rog Castle - King of the Hill

Sunday March 31st at 7pm GMT

Sounds like it'll be fun, new spawns will get an Enfield and pistol, ammo and map so you can jump straight into the action without having to hunt for gear.

Byff's Blogz day#9

Disastrous day today.

As the Fogeyz have got the King of the Hill event on Sunday, I've had to move my SUV from it's hiding place as it was too close to Rog castle for comfort.

The relocation was going fine and I was positioning the vehicle in it's new hiding place when I caught a tree at very low speed. Instant knock out and I was left with no blood and two zeds eating me. Dead.

On the respawn, had a little dealing with a hacker who had spawned in an apache helicopter, but then headed off to recover my gear. On reaching my body, the SUV had blown up, so bang went 20 Stanag SD rounds, numerous parts for vehicles and 4 jerry cans.

I managed to get my coyote back-pack and my M9 SD plus all my survival gear then selected hide body - totally forgetting to get my M4A1 SD and had to watch it be consumed by the earth.

Decided that maybe today is not a lucky day for me, so logged off and went to do some gardening instead.

No vehicles or heli's, the situation is desperate. Equip the hatchet and head north to the NEAF where I find a Huey! No fuel and requires engine parts. After a 45min search, finally get it repaired and a few Jerry cans worth of fuel in it. Should be enough to get closer to a fuel tank, so take off and see the fuel gauge instantly drop. Before I know it, the fuel is empty and the engine cuts out. Quickly, I bail out as the chopper ditches into the trees, I land badly injured with virtually 0 blood, screen black and white, blurry and shaking. Even eating my 4 steaks isn't enough to put some blood into the HUD. As he keeps passing out, decide to put all my stuff into my back pack and find somewhere to commit suicide.

I respawn in Cherno and find a white UAZ car parked behind the church. Driving it north towards my body, I notice how quick the fuel seems to be used up, so I blame the chopper crash on a server glitch (honest). Get back to my body and recover my stuff, taking care to make sure everything has transferred this time. The zeds seem particularly nasty today while collecting more Jerry cans and I take a bit of damage.

Driving towards NWAF, I accidentally clip a rock and damage my car. While repairing it, the zeds knock me out and have a feast. Dead yet again.

Respawned in Elektro so collected a few wheels etc ready for the run north incase I come across a damaged car when Daryl offers me a ride. I start to run towards Cherno when he reports he's damaged his car. Fortunately, I have spares and as a bonus, Munny logs in. He comes and picks me up then we go and repair Daryls car. We head north in convoy until Daryl smashes his car again but this time we leave it and all head off in Munnys Betty van.

Body recovered again and we all head off to NWAF. Daryl jumps out to investigate a UAZ on the runway and me and Munny go to check out a plane. I volunteer to try and fly it, but get into difficulties and it ends up nose first into a tree. I can't get it out or turned around, so we leave it and repair the UAZ.

Daryl shouts for help in the barracks so we go save him and in the escape process, Munny drives over a runway light and the Betty van explodes killing him and Daryl. Daryl seems to think we killed him on purpose somehow and has a little rage. Good job I was in the UAZ, I recovered all their gear and headed south to their respawns.

I pick up Munny first, then let Munny drive to Cherno to pick up Daryl, stopping at industrial spawns on the way. Daryl seems to get more impatient and we start to smell a trap, however, we see him running with a train of zeds behind him, so stop to let him in. Bang, Munny's dead, bang, I'm dead too, sounds of a shotgun from the church on our blind side.

Life as a medic/mechanic can be a dangerous one, but I'm still not prepared to start killing my fellow survivors. Munny on the other hand.....lets see how long it takes for revenge.

Byff's Blogz day#11

Just before I logged out on day#10, I'd repaired a SUV with a missing front wheel for Munny to use. I logged in today to find the wheel still in my inventory, so headed up to a red Hi-Lux pickup I'd previously spotted.

It was still where I last found it, so repaired it's rear wheel, jumped in and headed for the NWAF. Stopping to loot a barn for jerry cans, I was surprised to see the wheel still in my inventory!

I had a magic wheel !!!!!

Unfortunately, I didn't come across anymore cars to test my magic wheel on, but I did find a plane at the NWAF. This time, I had a look to see what the controls were for a plane, then boarded the Byff's Airbus. Got the hang of the controls pretty easy and I must say, I love planes. They just seem to fly a lot more easily than helicopters and you seem to have more time to have a good look around you.

Buzzed the airfields, nothing at NE, little bird at Balota then headed back to NW to see if I could land it. My son came in at this point and showed me auto-land - how fantastic is that! It lined itself up for the approach, then my son jumped in and yelled "It's going to crash you into the plane wreck". He took manual control and promptly ejected me out by accident. I landed badly, DEAD!

My re-spawn was Cherno, so gethered a few essentials from the supermarket and a few things for the little bird at Balota incase it was damaged and headed over that way. Fortunately, it was all green, but empty of fuel and I only had one jerry can. Held my breath and started the engines with just a slither of fuel on the gauge, remembering what happened last time I tried this. It all went well and I got it within an inch of the fuel tanks. Stuck 1/4 of a tank in, then headed off to NW for my body.

Reaching NW, the plane was sitting at the end of the runway with its engines still running. I turned the engines off and went for the hunt for my body. I looked all over, no flies, no sign of it. Then I noticed on the wing of the wrecked plane decoration - my body. No way of getting that back, so I flew off to hide the little bird (in a useless hiding place but I needed to be quick), find a few more essentials and log off.

I'll not get another chance to play until Monday, there's no way the chopper will still be there but I can keep my fingers crossed.

Only logged in for a quicky to raid the supermarket for some matches. Then cake'n'death mentioned his chopper had been stolen so I went on a bit of a hunt.

While I was flying in the plane, I'd spotted a little bird hidden away, so I ran off to see if it was cake's hiding place or if it was someone else's stash. A quick 2k run and a bit of a search in the forest and I'd located the little bird - good condition but zero fuel. Fortunately, there were 5 Jerry cans in it's gear, enough to get it to a fuel tank.

While filling it up at NWAF, I was buzzed by a Huey with Cholay and Wacko in it. With 1/3 of a tank, I set off to pick up cake'n'death and witnessed the Huey nose dive into a field. Thinking Wacko and Cholay were possible casualties, I landed to see if anyone needed assistance. Apparently, Wacko had disconnected, Cholay bailed so there were no fatalities, just a burning shell of a huey.

Once I was satisfied everyone was ok, I took off to fill the rest of the tank when cake'n'death's killed message came up - he had been held up by Gilly but a bit of confusion had led to his demise.

Setting off towards Cherno, I thought I'd get near to the spawn points to pick him back up when Cholay and Gilly shot past me in another Huey (just where have they got all these choppers stashed away lol). We managed to get to Cherno and I picked up cake in the little bird.

Now little bird's aren't the fastest of choppers and whoever was piloting the Huey must of been getting bored of the slow coach. All I saw was a whoosh of Huey overhead, then a few seconds later, BANG! Apparently, a barrel roll over my chopper didn't quite go according to plan, so that was Huey No2 nose first in the dirt.

Cholay had died in the crash, so I dropped cake off and headed to Balota to pick him up. As the chopper was a result of ill gotten gains - i.e. Stolen - I let Cholay have it and I parachuted out in some open fields to hunt animals when I log back in.

Sorry to see two Huey's destroyed, but at least I'll have a chance of finding the re-spawns.

My little bird was still hidden away, so thought I'd go for a fly around. On take off, clipped a tree, crashed and died. Nice start to the session.

Ran back to my body and recovered my stuff, getting to be a bit repetitive this lol.

A quick check of the NWAF revealed only a plane, so I thought I'd have another crack at fixed wing flying. Managed to do a full lap of the map and landed it safely so parked it up more or less where I found it and went off to examine some of the treasure's I'd found.

I did steal a Huey, but in my defence, as it was left on the very edge of the map and in plain view, it was far too tempting to leave alone. I did leave my pick-up as payment and transferred it's gear over so they didn't loose their stuff.

Trying to find a good hiding place for a chopper is very hard, the little bird was un-discovered for nearly a full weekend but it's location made landings risky and take off's virtually impossible. There must be a little bit of the map where everyone manages to miss, a small valley, an untraveled road or a peak that's just easier to walk around than over.

I'm not convinced with it's current hiding place, one day I'll find the Holy grail of hiding places then I'll be content.

I've been practicing the art of surviving. Filled my tent with beef steaks, meds, water bottles and anything else that'll be handy. I've also turned into a bit of a hoarder much to my own dismay. I've now collected 7 vehicles and hidden them away, something I've got to stop doing.

I'll probably start distributing them around the coast soon but in the mean time, my little garage forecourt looks damn sexy. If anyone found them, they'd probably laugh their heads off in disbelief.

I felt sorry for Cholay today. Due to my chopper having a little "accident", he was performing taxi duties and was ambushed. Fortunately, I had a few heli parts and arranged to meet him at pustoshka but someone intercepted him and shot him. If I had my chopper still, that could have been me.

It's maybe time to hang up my hatchet and start weapon training. These are dangerous times we play in.

I'm on nightshifts so only had time for an hour of play. TheJJ was calling for help, but I couldn't have been further away on the map. I was at NEAF, he was at Balota. On the way, Daryl and Pizza logged in and declared themselves bandits, so I had to be cautious. Picked up an AK and put the hatchet away then continued to theJJ's position.

Unfortunately, he had to log out before I got there so went back to scavaging for parts until it was time to go to work. I seem to consume vast amount of windscreen's, so apocolypse or no apocolypse, I'm keeping the good folks at autoglass in a job.

It's getting rare that I'm the only player on the server, even during the quiet periods when I could loot the map with ease. Couple of new players that make me uneasy, fire and air, that are always on together so until I've established friendly or hostile intentions, will continue to treat then with suspicion.

My garage is still undiscovered, still 7 vehicles but I've swapped a UAZ for another black SUV. I was determined not to add another vehicle to the collection and cure myself of this hoarding addiction. When I have time on Monday, I'll sort out the gear and move all but the 2 SUV's down to the coast (presuming they haven't been found by then).

Today I've been looting industrial spawns to collect enough spares to do full repairs of anything I may find. I'm still low on engine parts and glass, but I've got loads of scrap metal and Jerry cans. I also ran through a pub and found my very first ghillie suit.

A good hours worth of looting and I finish my last nightshift tonight before a week off :)

Byff's Blogz day#17

I've sorted out my stuff into - Food/Meds, Fuel/Repairs and Weapons. Each group has it's own vehicle which gets used depending on what I find while scouting the map. I also have two tents set up now with starter equipment - matches, hatchet, knife, toolbox, weapons, food etc etc... on the East and West of the map.

It's taken a lot of running, but I've also moved all my vehicles down to the coast for new spawns to find - they'll still have to look for them, I'm not offering them up on a plate like parked on the road between Cherno and Elektro. I've only kept 2 SUV's and a Landy because they're my favorites.

I also repaired an ATV and was moving that to the coast when the ATV leap of death occured while driving over a bridge. I am fully aware of the whole flip glitch for these things so I'd slowed right down to under 20kph but it still shot over onto it's side. I jumped off and tried the new "unflip" option when my character went "hurugh!!!" and the ATV shot into the air. I backed off wondering where it would land when WHAM! it appeared right next to me and exploded into a ball of flame. Dead.

Respawn point wasn't too far off so recovery wasn't too much of an issue, but I'd really wanted to try and make this character last for a few days, grow old and turn into an OAP.

So as I was a brand new character, I thought I'd try target practice. I'd deliberately agro and bunch of zeds and try to kill them. Needless to say, my shot still needs lots of practice and I'm getting pretty good at recovering my dead body when it all goes wrong.

Byff's Blogz day#18

Decided to try tooling myself up and loosing the axe for a while. The axe has become a comfort blanket to me, knowing that when in a tight spot, it'll one hit zeds silently. So I'm forcing myself to carry a "proper" weapon, at the moment, a M4A3 CCO (I think that's what it's called).

I noticed there was only me and another player on the fogeyz Chernarus server so I thought I'd be a badass and go hunt him down. Crossing Balota, I noticed zeds on the road so stalked through the trees to find my pray. There he was, crossing into some military tents - unarmed and being a complete Bambi.

I could have shot him, but I didn't have the heart, so opened up a bit of dialogue instead. I stayed hidden which was fun, he was running all over the place and he didn't know where I was, dodging behind tree's and lurking in bushes.

In the end, I took him along to Cherno and got him kitted up, but once he'd got a weapon, I said my goodbyes and left him to it.

I'm still no where near what you'd call proficient in this game, but today has made me realise that I'm not as useless as I think I am. All I need now is a few more players on the server so come join me on the Fogeyz private hive - custom buildings and 300 extra vehicles.

Sadly, today marked the end of the Fogeyz Cherno server.

My adventures will begin again once I've got this Epoch mod installed. It's a bit scary, but I feel the time is right to unleash my incompetence upon my fellow Fogeyz and play alongside them battling the other survivors for supreme dominance.

Thanks for the offer Mr Goldfish, but I like figuring out stuff for myself. Had my first day playing today so....

Byff's Blogz Epoch day#1

Spawned in next to Cherno with nothing but a torch and 2 bandages. First stop the supermarket where I found a British Assault pack and the fire station where there was an AKS. I also found a tractor so took a bit of time figuring out the repair/salvage feature. Took a few deaths while trying out my new surroundings and noticed a chronic lack of maps, but a huge excess of watches. Obviously, the people of Chernarus took punctuality very seriously.

Respawning in Kamenka, I found a pick up truck, hull was fully damaged but driveable. I used this to get me up to Berezino where I figured the Fogeyz was located.

The bases on the DayzForever server has an automatic protection that kills you if you try to enter and your not part of the bases clan. With this in mind and not being sure if it was the correct location or how instantaneous the death would be, I loaded the pick up with all my gear so if killed, I wouldn't loose anything.

While approaching the base, I was too busy looking at some buildings and I drove straight into a fence. With the hull being totally broken, it was enough to stop it dead, I jumped out and it burst into flames. All my gear up in a puff of smoke.

As it happens, it wasn't even our base so I collected a few odds and ends to test the trader camp at Klem (spelling?). I only got a few silver and gold, figured out how to smelt it into 10oz bars and then headed off to the NWAF.

As I'd lost all my weapons in the truck, I was pretty desperate for a good gun but the server was very busy and there was activity at the airstrip. I sneaked through the woods up to the barracks and found a land rover. Knowing its owners were probably close, I kept in cover and observed. Nothing...so I crept to the land rover - two guns inside and a few odds and ends and it was unlocked.

In hindsight, I probably should have taken a gun and stalked the car for the owners return, but I got excited and tried to steal the landy. Damn that things slow when your in a hurry, didn't get far when I heard the shots...dead!

Respawned near to where I'd finished playing with the tractor, so figured a tractor is better than being on foot. Driving along a train track , the thing toppled over onto its side so I'm currently back on foot heading north.

Pretty good start and a poor ending for this session and I need to figure out the best things to collect when doing a cash4gold run to maximise my carrying potential.
