Suggestion: Random starting gear

Recommended Posts

I'm not talking about the chance to start with a fully loaded AK and NVGs versus starting with an empty tin can and a paperclip. What I propose is a slight variation of low level starting gear, for example:

One life you might start with pain killers, a bandage and a soda,

Another life; a can of beans, a box of matches and a hunting knife.

These variations will be as balanced as possible, so as not to cause debate and quarreling on the forums/ in game but varied enough to influence how you play the start of your life, giving you some indication on what needs to be prioritised, not to the point however, that it should dictate the way you play.

I guess it would just help the game become less repetitive after each death, making you play slightly differently from how you did before, or exploring new areas (e.g having to prioritise finding painkillers instead of food)

It also arguably increases realism, each player is an individual person, thus would likely have different equipment.

It might even encourage noobie interaction to a degree, especially due to not starting without a weapon. Those early on in the game may trade starting goods with each other, due to people starting with different equipment.

I do admit however that some people would still likely claim these variations as unbalanced. Furthermore noobies could become a high priority again for bandits due to the chance of different loot.

Is there any other criticisms people can think of? More positives? What do you guys think?
