The reason I love this game

Recommended Posts

I just had the most epic pursuit in my entire DayZ career.

It was a regular day for me - After bleeding to death after zomb attacks twice in a row I respawn just outside of Cherno in close proximity to the big unfinished building/ruin. Pitch black night, I decide to take my usual route all the way through cherno and check the firestation, the supermarket and the church.

Heading towards the big international hotel, I crossed that wide open field with a few containers scattered around that is located a bit in front of aforementioned hotel. Using my flashlight sparingly, I spot zombs and avoid them as best as I can.

Suddenly, the sound of bullets flying past me. I quickly figured someone saw my flashlight and obviously wasn't too friendly. A few more rounds fly by and one hits me, causing me to bleed. Now, there's me out in the open and without any weapon I couldn't return fire, so I quickly crawled to a nearby wall and used it as a cover while stopping the bleeding with my only bandage kit.

By that time I thought the shooter could only be on top of the large ruin that I spawned nearby. Watching it, I noticed a silhouette on the roof carrying something that looked like an Enfield.

The guy isn't too good of a shot, but surely he's smart. Still expecting me on the open field, he threw a pair of flares. However, I was lucky enough to find a hole in the wall and crawl through. I quickly headed towards the ruin and got into it. Going inside the room with the burning barrel, there's a corpse on the floor. It wasn't him, since it carried no primary, but only an empty makarov. I proceeded to search the ruin for him but he was gone already, so I headed towards the firestation again. Being ~250 meters infront of it, I noticed the dim red light of a flare and someone with an Enfield in the tower. He seemed to loot the tower, so I headed into the garage of the firestation, desperately hoping for a weapon or at least some Makarov ammunition. But nothing. Suddenly, steps from the tower. Just as I crawl into the corner, the dude comes out of the tower and heads out of the main gate.

I think to myself, "Why not try to watch where he goes from the tower now?", so I head up myself. What I find is glorious: 5 Makarov mags, the guy must have dropped them there in exchange for another secondary.

Now with a huge confident boost, I throw a freshly found flare myself. Just as I see his silhouette turning around one of the corners of the firestation, he looks up into the tower and sees me. I quickly duck into the staircase. After a short wait I take another look - the other bandit is nowhere to see. I wait another 5 minutes, but not even the smallest step.

Since the firestation was empty now and I still didn't have a primary, I figured I'd head into the supermarket. Now, as soon as I spotted the supermarket I noticed around 3 or 4 flares inside. Obviously, the other dude was still around.

But since the flares were already burned and only glowing faintly I took the risk and went into the building. Being less than 10 seconds inside, I see him through one of the windows, crawling across the street.

By that time I was out for blood. He seemed to still search for me, looking down the street frantically, so I snuck out of the front door and lined up behind. Still being around 50 meters behind, only with a Makarov, I needed to get closer.

I head towards him, 40 m, 30m, 25m and suddenly he turns around and looks right into my face. Having my iron sights on his head the whole time, he isn't even able to fire a single shot - one Makarov round to his head is enough to silence him forever.

The guy must either have been incredibly lucky or just alive since a few days. He had what I couldn't find the whole day - two cans of beans and a filled water bottle. Obviously I grabbed his Enfield with 3 mags, too, along with a map, a compass and some painkillers. I then headed back into the supermarket and from there into the church - where I found a ghillie suit and finally logged off to go onto this forum and tell the story that had lasted around 30 mins.

It was the upmost thrilling thing I have experienced in a video game during the last few years.

This might not sound too spectacular, but it surely showed me what I love most about DayZ:

Not the zombies, not the loot or the huge map. No, it's the interaction with other survivors, be it friendly or just plain deadly.

Sorry for the huge wall of text, the story turned out longer than I expected.

If you still read it all, kudos to you. If not, I really can't blame you.

This. This one thousand percent. I hope Rocket doesn't change much of the gameplay before the game hits Beta. I mean... Its spectacular as it is and I hope more is to come.

I know exactly how you feel. Its such a rush and has my heart going like mad and my body shaking a bit. I have to log off after intense firefights when we get back to camp just to calm down.
