In the dark regarding the cheat/ban system

Recommended Posts

Guys,

I am new to Arma/DayZ so I am a bit in the dark regarding how the cheat ban system works. Being a server admin, I feel it is my duty and responsibility to be pro-active with hackers and keep dayz fans happy including myself. There's nothing worse than dying to a fucking hacker.

With that said, I realize there is the battleye anti-cheat program but it is not a catch-all system as I have found teleporters, crate spawners etc in my log.

What is the current best practice system to eliminate hackers from my server and globally? If I find a hacker and ban on my server won't they go to another server and continue to abuse until the admin looks through the logs?

I recommend a better system to globally ban players and not have to update a bans.txt file every few days. Also, if battleye cannot catch everything what about a local script to execute on my log file to scan for hackers and automatically add their guid and reason to a text file or my bans.txt file? Posting suspect logs to a forum thread does not scale and is very inefficient.

Also how do my bans affect the global ban list?

I know this is a lot of questions but I am really fucking lost here on how we are dealing with hackers and what the proper protocol is. I love this game and I want to exterminate all vermin before it takes over.

Thanks,

Lefty

Hello,

Since when you ban the person from your server, that's about all the power you have to do for him. The best thing to do, if you find someone like that is to contact a Staff member right away via IRC.

One of the other DayZ Engineers, Dizzymagoo has been working on something pretty cool.

Im working on a program right now that actually anaylzes the RPT file and searches everybodys inventory and location. And based off of that information it can calculate the probability of someone being a hacker.

He's got a lot of work on his plate at the moment, so it's going to be a little while till we see a first release.

Well now that we have finally switched the forums over I can finish work on my ban system that hosters can access to apply bans to a database which an external application can read from if made to fetch new bans automatically and sync with their server.

The question is when I complete this would hosters like a json output and an XML output of the entire ban list for them so that they can fetch the data with a custom application?
