A few quick questions for a noob...

How come there are different maps, I thought you could log into a server, log out, and log into another at the same spot, but ones I joined say custom map so how would that work?

Secondly, I little problem I've had twice now, my character seems to get stuck facing a certain direction and I can't freely move him around any more, like he's locked onto something, very annoying lol?

2 one press alt im guessing thats the problem. and some dayz fans have made custom maps and servers not connected to the main hive to prevent hacking.

I've cutsomized my controls and alt is my toggle run/walk but it was fine, just randomly happened two times and got me killed by a zombie. Do you know the name of the command that's causing it by any chance so I can unmap it?

Yeah, I joined one and couldn't find anything at all, constant wilderness. Which servers are recommended for new players with the default map?

if your screen gets stuck moving around without turning your character double tap alt to turn off free look...

secondly, in response to your first question, when the mod first started all there was was the public hive. Admins of servers had little to no rights and each and every server became infected with hackers. the public hive is what allows u to join 1 server... log out and then be in the same place on a different server. since the public hive has been almost completely abandoned for the time being everyone plays on custom/private hive servers. meaning whatever happens on that server stays on that server, though they are still Battleye protected. My advice, find a nice private hive and play there... dont bother with the public hive in its current state

asterik on my numberpad activates free look ... able to look around while character faces same direction .... good for looking 360 and not being seen moving....

Must be something to do with free look I'm messing with then :D

And I'll try and find a nice server to rest on for the time being, with with no restrictions on murder as bandits add to to thrill, I joined one earlier which had a rule of no murdering so I left immediately as I want some risk in my play :)

EDIT: About the difficulty on various servers - What does that actually effect, just the damage the zombies inflict?

I set my side button on my mouse to turn my head while running, just easier that way rather then say holding ALT.

The way it works is.

There is a HIVE Database, there's a special database that 50% servers use, that way you can have gear one one server, and on the other one the same gear aswell, same for the position.

There are also Private Hives, there your gear sticks to only that server(That database).
