I'd have spent half the money making something twice as powerful, and put the rest in the bank. Like a smart person :P

Soeg 3 Posted June 19, 2012 Yep you got screwed over hardcore there. The pre-built business is a big scam, with company's like apple and alienware (dell) being the worst. Because loads off people seem to think that computer performance are based on RAM, hdd sizes and clock speeds. These company's exploit this a lot (thats why company's like alienware say things like: 32 GB SUPER FAST GAMING RAM) and make huge profits off these people. Op, you got scammed by dell obviously, your laptop has maybe 400 dollars max worth off parts in there, dell probally paid 300 dollars to make it, and made 700 dollars profit. The thing is that you dont have a grafic card ( GPU) and thats why it performs so bad.Let this be a warning to all of you, just build your own desktop, you will save 200-2000€ depending on how expensive the parts are compared to "gaming" pre-builts.And most importantly, stay away from Dell and Apple
hackerslasher 1 Posted June 19, 2012 Seems a little fishy that it would have Windows 7 Ultimate on it. Was it from a trade or PC fair?Anyway, if it's got an ATI 5650 1Gb in it, it's not going to win any races but you should be able to run Arma 2 / DayZ ok all the same...Change your desktop theme to a non Aero one first if you haven't done this already and then download, install and run this : ftp://ftp.secunia.com/PSISetup.exeIt will update everything that needs updating on your system, which should offer a little better performance and security in general.Tell us how you get on... bptrav 0 Posted June 19, 2012 My computer I I just purchased is $1' date='000 and cannot even run it.[/quote']This is the price you pay for buying a laptop unfortunately. They just aren't that well suited for gaming. The things that make games run fast (fast CPUs/video cards) produce a lot of heat and take up a lot of space so they are difficult/impossible to fit in a laptop. It's sort of like trying to fit a Ferrari V12 engine in a Honda Civic, it's just not going to happen.Due to these constraints even a $4000 laptop won't perform as well as a $1500 desktop in games. dakkafex 0 Posted June 19, 2012 people its a LAPTOP, he cant do much about his system apart from adding more ram but he already has 8gigs so thats more then enough.ok like someone said before, 50% of the price of a laptop is for the fact that its a laptop, so what you did is you payed 500$ for the insides, and another 500$ for the plastic thats around it, this is how the laptop buisness is, now there are 2 pages on your DXdiag, the gpu info should be on the 2nd tab.oh and a # rule for buying a laptop if you do need one, never ever ever ever ever ever ever buy a DELL/HP a whole series of one of those has actualy been made to break down, and theres a huge lawsuit runing against them

djkling 5 Posted June 19, 2012 Laptops are not ALL garbage, but they are pricey. I spent $4500 on an Origin PC (dont get too excited, I got to write it off on my taxes as a work expense) Laptop (17" model) and it has dual GPU's, intel i7 processor, 32G of RAM, SSD's in RAID 0... and its MORE than enough for running Arma2. I feel bad for the guy who bought the Dell, but maybe you should contact Dell about the possibility of an aftermarket GPU in it. Some can have the chips changed, others can not. $1000 is a decent price for a PC (just the tower really) and you can probably build a decent one for that cost. figure $200 for the mobo, $150 for the RAM, $300 for the GPU, $250 for the chip, $100 for the PSU, and any cheap case will do. Thats $1000. It wont scream, but its a start. You don't need a $7000 watercooled tower with dual GTX690 cards and a premium processor to play this game.. Arma2 is a few years old, so you can get away with cutting some corners.Hell, look on eBay, I sell used computer parts when I upgrade for less than 1/2 of what i paid... y ou can get some GREAT deals if youre careful.
