Steam WTF

I have the game updated to 1.7.6.1 yet steam keeps trying to update to something, and it pauses, when I click resume it just goes straight to suspended. I can't launch the damn game because of that.

I am however able to launch the game via the beta patch exe, but the point is, I would like to be on through steam to keep contact with friends not to mention I am annoyed to all end with the pinging sound it makes as it tries to resume and then suspends.

i have steam updating everydy from a week or so..when it's finished i can play normally ( it actually updates something only once every 3-4 days)
