When zeds can no longer walk through doors.

Recommended Posts

One day doors will prevent zeds from walking through. It's just not done yet I realize that. But I'm just bouncing ideas around to actually address the issue and other features I think would be cool once working doors are implemented.

So to begin with, doors would obviously block zombies from going through them. The next step would be to make them breakable so you can't just run inside and be safe forever. So we give the doors a sort of health bar and the doors are destroyable objects. So depending on the number of zombies trying to get in, you have a varied amount of time before it gets broken open. But to prevent an issue where doors would eventually need to respawn themselves magically, how about they don't actually get destroyed but just burst open using the animation that exists for them, just sped up a bunch.

But you might think "okay, I'll just close the door again and give myself some more time in my safe haven." So lets make some kind of invisible collision where the door won't close if someone is in the way. On top of that, make it so that the door being broken open makes a sounds similar to maybe a revolver or 1911 being fired (depending on the door like metal vs wooden), thus attracting more zombies to the scene and shortening the time it would take to break it open again.

Also maybe finding a toolbox and some boards (or just boards) could be utilized to reinforce the door.

If there are two entrances to a building, a player could use the door system to create a delayed distraction from their escape out the back way.

I dunno. Doors seem like a definite eventuality. It'd be interesting if any building was able to be temporarily barricaded like what other people seem to want. And the actually barricading, would you want that to take time and make noise with the potential of attracting zombies as well?
