My problem with the new patch (1.7.1.1)

Recommended Posts

The idea of the new patch is in the right direction. Take the danger out of the players hands and put it back into the zombies.

The LOS is completely screwed up. Completely. I just quit the game after a half an hour of playing (I usually rack about 2-3 hours, if not more, per session) because the zombie detection is stupid. I understand it's an alpha, that's why I am posting about it so it can be properly tweaked.

Here is what happened:

I crouch-ran (Stealth run, whatever you call it) right past a zombie. I could have given it a high five as I passed I was that close. He did nothing. He kept shambling forward. I turned a building and was in between two houses, no zombies in sight. I take 3 steps and I hear the characteristic cry of a zombie pissed off. How did he detect me? It wasn't the same one I had the near miss pass with (That one was the gas station attendant zombie, the one who ended up running after me was the fat zombie with the stupid hat). So I stood up to run. As soon as I took a step in standing mode I heard at least 3 others shout out alarm. so I run into the front of a house, leave them at the door, crouch again, and leave through the back. They stay there. I go on my merry way, until BAM one foot of mine touches pavement. My sight meter goes from 3 to 6(full) and I literally have the entire village after me. They are not using line of sight. They are spotting me through houses on the other side of a village.

Before you say it's one instance, it wasn't. This was my third life, after being detected inside of buildings and hit through the wall (which isn't fixed, by the way, otherwise I would not have been attacked through a concrete wall).

I am not going to be one of those guys who says "THE GAME IS BROKEN FUCK YOU ALL I HATE YOU", I'm trying to approach this in a civilized manner. On the flip side, you fanboys who say "The game is too hard for you, you should quit and go back to playing call of duty" should probably not log into the forum because you're toadies and yes men. You're not helping the mods development, you're hindering it. Of course I appreciate the hard work and time lost to the development team and everything, but that certainly doesn't mean I should not express my dismay about broken features and mis-implemented mechanics. As much as you may think you're special, you niche people are not the target audience they have in mind. You are not special, Rocket is not developing this game specifically for you. He is developing it for everyone.

With that said I don't want this game to be easy. Quite the contrary, I want this to be challenging, and I'm positive that is the direction the DayZ devs want this mod to go. But when I'm detected and eventually run down and killed I want it to be because of a mistake I made, impatience on my part, or bad luck. I don't want my demise to be illogical. Because zombies detecting me through buildings and across villages is illogical. And it makes me frustrated to the point where the mod ceases to be fun. BUT I'm not going to give up on it because I know it is constantly being refined and tweaked. I understand this is stage 8 of 925 of DayZ.

So. Withholding much frustration, I would politely ask, please fix the zombie detection. Thank you.

(And Fanboys need not reply, I won't read their posts anyway.)
