Game Crashing/Freezing Upon Engaging Another Player

Hey, I have been playing the DayZ mod for several weeks now without any problems

However, I decided to give the Wasteland mod a go as it looked pretty cool and its basiclly just DayZ without the zombies. Anyway I have been suffering major game/system freezes with both mods

The game seems to freeze whenever I engage another player or zombie, I can drive vehicles about, interact with people, everything. But as soon as I go to fire a weapon at someone my game freezes and locks up the computer. The only way I can then get out of the game is to press the power button on the case and hope I can get to the cancel button on the force restart overlay before it shuts down

Has anyone heard of this before or know what I could do to fix it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated - thanks
