Generators and Mini-bases

Recommended Posts

Friend and myself were thinking about uses for a generator other than just lights. We were thinking something along the lines of using the generator to secure a building or maybe a small compound. As long as the generator is running and has gas the area it is covering is not accessible with electronically locked doors or some other mechanic.

The idea is to have a semi-secure base where things can be stashed and base out of that you can actually keep people from raiding while everyone is sleeping as long as the generator is gassed. Means it is still vulnerable as a siege could easily bleed it from its gasoline, killing anyone making a run to the nearest pumps etc etc etc.

Thoughts comments? Semi safe base that is still vulnerable but gives the defenders a chance to defend?

You would have the issue of having to keep the generator fueled while you are offline. But it is interesting. Mechanical locks, garage doors. You could make a really well defended compound. Though, it should have to be fixed and maintained by a larger group. maybe 3 or more. Otherwise you would have 1-person compounds inaccessible by other survivors. Unless you make garage doors breakable, or some way of infiltrating it.

Other systems could include better medical equipment, radios, maybe a warning siren to attract zombies if a survivor is trying to attack you. Signal lights (color coded, morse code etc)

Huh...why didn't I think of that? That would make more sense than silly electronic locks...Electrified barbed wire...Yes me likey.

The idea to balance this was if you ran out of gas, the mechanism that was keeping players out would be turned off when the generator shuts off, so a solo person wouldn't be able to keep this secure for very long, and even a group of people would still need to regularly scavenge for gas, and parts to repair the generator.
