Hello, I am Col Brown and I am the leader of the small military structured clan known as DayZ's 8th Infantry Division. I would like to welcome you to the more permanent topic concerning our weekly Survival GameZ events. Before we get started, let me tell you a bit about what these GameZ are and where we hope to take them.

The Survival GameZ we are talking about here are not related to nor are we affiliated with the larger, more well known events of a similar name. This was an idea I hatched at 4am one morning as a way to gain publicity for our clan and private hive, but after the first event on February 16th, I knew it could be so much more. The first event was fubar at first, I was sick recently and slept in, and then getting everyone organized was hectic to say the least. We ended up starting two hours late, but in the end for a first event it went pretty well and left all parties with a good feeling to my knowledge, or most at least. These games consist of multiple game types rotating every week. I would love to see this event really take off after these rough first few weeks, we have already been reached out to by well-known DayZ organizations which we are very grateful for. In the future my ultimate goal would be that we could get well-known streamers and YouTubers such as FrankieonPCin1080P, JackFrags, PsiSyndicate, or others involved, but instead of making the games exclusive to these DayZ celebrities actually allow regular players to play with them. We will also be opening up for donations if there is good sentiment towards it so that in the future once we stabilize the GameZ we would be able to offer cash prizes to groups who win.

FAQ:

Q: Can I stream?

A: Absolutely, we welcome streamers with open arms. Just be aware that we can not prevent stream sniping nor can we compensate you if it happens, but we will do everything in our power to create a safe and secure streaming environment.

Q: Can we use our own communication software?

A: Unfortunately, no. We require everyone to use our TeamSpeak server to prevent any kind of cheating. We provide each team their own private room and we are always available in a public channel if you have any questions.

Q: Can we have more than one team from our group?

A: No, each group may have only one team per Game.

Q: Will there be video of the event?

A: Yes, in addition to streams from players I will be streaming live coverage at twitch.tv/8th_Infantry_DayZ as well as uploading a highlights reel the following day to our YouTube channel.

Q: I died. Can I stay and watch?

A: No, but you are more than welcome to join us in a public TS room or join us on one of the live streams.

February 23 - [New Game Mode] Hostage Rescue: 8Inf members will be in a convoy escorting a vehicle with one randomly selected team onboard, the "hostages," around Chernarus. The teams must work together to gear up, assault the convoy and rescue the hostages. Whoever manages to survive and rescue the hostages will then make their way to the NWAF to a waiting biplane which they must load the hostages into and takeoff in, flying to a location to be given by me once the biplane is airborne, and ejecting, finally bringing all remaining survivors to me. Only one team will win, so once the hostages are rescued be ready to turn on or be turned on by your former allies. A hostage will be killed if he/she tries to run from the convoy or announces its position in chat. Otherwise hostages will be used as shields during any firefight, so remember to check your fire. If there are prizes later on in the GameZ, the amount of prizes given will depend on the number of hostages alive at the end of the Game.

So if your team gets picked as the Hostages, you cant win? you cant make an attempt to free your team? you basically just have to get ferried around while everyone else plays.

Also is it possible for the teams from the first event to compete again? I understand new squads that sign up would take precedent so everyone can have a go. Lastly do you plan on starting at the same time? I'm sure I can speak for CMC and MsN that even an hour later would be greatly appreciated for any Australian teams competing, waking up at 5.30am inst nearly as bad as 4.30am.

I forgot to mention that to be in the drawing for the hostage spot your team leader must volunteer, and there will be some sort of compensation like being given priority for the next event or something similar, we will have something to make it worth your while, don't worry. There will also be weapons placed in the vehicle (we will likely use a ural for hostage transport and Humvees for our captors) so that once the convoy is under attack you have the option of fighting back if you feel so inclined and are willing to accept the risks, you will just have to warn the other teams you are armed so you aren't killed by mistake. If it comes down to it, if nobody wants to do it we may end up bringing in one of the reserver teams to use as the hostages.

And yes, by all means if you participated yesterday you are more than welcome to sign up again, just be ready to give up your spot if a new team comes in. We will try to run 2 games if time permits and everyone is available and wants to do more, and we will likely add a later time sometime during the week, and if that still won't work well for you Aussies I would be willing to add a third time late on a friday night so that it translates into late morning/afternoon saturday for you guys.
