Rebalances, rebalances rebalances

Recommended Posts

After playing for quite a while, lopsided spawning and stats for weapons and items (no matter how tiny) become apparent

so here's my little list of tweaks that would make loot and gear more fun to use

--Winchester--

Slug rounds should be a whole lot rarer. Winchester outclasses pretty much every other weapon that isn't military when using slug rounds, where as using buckshot would make it less effective at range. Or just reduce magazine size/damage...

--revolver/1911--

I really think these should be louder. a .45 is not a quiet round, and one shotting a zombie with a hefty revolver and having his Z friend a block away not notice is unrealistic.

--Road flares/Chem lights--

Count per pack should be reduced to 5. I find these damn things everywhere, yet I rarely ever even use up the ones I spawn with.

--ALICE pack--

should have a drawback of some kind. Not sure if this is implementable, but making it heavier would be great. Right now, all other backpacks ingame are completely useless.

just a few thoughts.

I've been saying scrap the 15 round magazines and make it use the 8 round 1014 mags for ages. I this is a lot easier and makes the other shotguns more accessible and useful.

The .45ACP guns are louder than the 9mm already.

I agree.

Or just make it more rare than it already is.

good points. i think that all items in this game should have their own advantages and drawbacks compared to others. as an example you mentioned, the alice pack is simply the best backpack in the game, making all the others useless. it' a good example of experienced players having a clear-cut advantage over starting players.

so balance it out somehow - make alice packs heavier and reduce player speed.

+1 to reducing flares/chemlights. just reduce everything in general. it doesn't feel like a survival game when i'm constantly stocked on supplies. surviving hunger/thirst and zombies should be priority #1, not looking out for bandits.

Actually the winchester needs to see a complete overhaul. It isn't a shotgun, or even a rifle, it's a lever action pistol caliber carbine. The 1866 model's correct cartridge is the .44 Henry rimfire, and later models saw the .44-40. These are approximately the energy equivalents of a .357 Magnum, and since the Arma II engine supposedly regards all players as wearing body armor, any center torso shot with this rifle should do nothing bore than bruise the unlucky target.

The .45ACP guns are louder than the 9mm already.

Again, accuracy issue, the .45ACP is actually substantially quieter than the supersonic 9mm Luger (aka 9x19mm, 9mm Parabellum). Here's a quick chart showing relative "loudness" between the cartridges...

dB ---- Cartridge

155 - .223 rifle (M4/M16/M249)

156 - .308 rifle (M14/DMR/M240)

157 - .45 ACP (Revolver/M1911)

159 - .30-06 (equivalent for CZ550)

160 - 9mm Para pistol (M9/G17)

164 - .357 Magnum revolver (equivalent for Winchester)

P.S., every 3 decible increase is a doubling of the sound energy, so the 9mm is actually twice as loud as the .45.

I don't see why you want to increase the sound. Its pretty much one shot and you're screwed.

Just because the ALICE pack is the best pack in the game, doesn't make it 'useless'. I see plenty of players with the Czech and using it happily, and also the ALICE pack is rather rare when you begin to head north. The places I've found the ALICE packs most often are Cherno and Elektro, the two places where you are most likely to die.

It isn't.

And yeah, the other packs are often used when you've not found an ALICE or better yet. The only really useless pack is the one with 6 slots. I have no idea why that is even in the game.
