h3retic 224 Posted February 8, 2013 (edited) i7-3630QM CPU @ 2.40GHz (8 CPUs)- has 4 cores and not 8NVIDIA GTX 680m- is a mobile gpu, therefore *half powered*for a laptop it is perfectly normal to run lower fps even though the corersponding desktop components may run the game much better Edited February 8, 2013 by h3retic
Meeshe 170 Posted February 8, 2013 (edited) Is 30-45 not playable for you? Just wondering. I have close to the same laptop. gtx660m, I-7 3610qm (2.3 turbo boost 3.3). I get 20-30+ fps and while its not the greatest it doesnt bother me too badly. Also how hot does your CPU get? I have to turn turbo boost off because my laptop gets toasty with it on so I don't get the 3.3 turbo boost benefit, (though thats only about 5 fps difference when its on).I think I'll have to take it apart and check thermal paste, but am hesitant as I've never done that before. You said you did the .config change. I'm guessing the =1, not =0 on the 2 GPU lines. How much did it help your dps? I'm not seeing anything other than a couple fps difference.Have you turned shadows completely off? That can help fps. Also have you tried vert sync actually on? I've read and it happens for me that I actually get a bit better fps with it on. I totally dont understand why but it happens. It helped with tearing to, I dont know why I was getting tearing as Im not getting near 60 fps but I do :(Not trying to hijack your thread, I just figured similiar experiences and questions asked might lead to a solution. :)EDIT...have you tried setting priority higher in processes in windows task manager? nik21 287 Posted February 8, 2013 I'd say the frames are alright for a laptop. Considering that you probably got a 5400 rpm HDD in this thing,
h3retic 224 Posted February 9, 2013 in fact i would say that u are lucky to get 40 fps on a laptoparma 2 is really a game for desctop pc, it just is there is nothing special about ur specs, they are OK. 40 fps are exactly what u should be getting, in my opinion
Lord Jerec 0 Posted February 13, 2014 I have a very similar setup, almost identical even: Clevo P170EMi7-36308GB RamOnboard Intel HD 4000 with a 680M GPU using the Primus Nvidia thing.1TB 7200rpm (secondary drive, primary is SSD used only for OS and afew odds and sods) I can only hit 22 to 28 fps using Fraps. Its not really an issue but it can dip to 15-17 when I'm in a building with an outside view. I've followed some vids to help but its never gone over 30. Any suggestions? Also is the turbo controlled by the Nvidia software and if so how do I get it going? Cheers
