I have just been on a server, it droped me near a lighthouse and a town/Village where there was few zombies. But I am kind of confused, I don't know what to do? Where should I go? These are a few questionsFrom Youtube I have seen people with new gear they talk about the best backpack ect how do you get new gear by finding them around? What is the diffrence between servers? Are they diffrent game types or something? When I play a guy on a server for along time I have some good gear ect will I be able to continue with that guy on any server? Thanks guys. Whiskey_Tango (DayZ) 23 Posted February 6, 2013 Well, the best way to learn the game and get fluent with the controls.. is to.. Play! Become familiar with your surroundings, the types of buildings you can and can't enter, items, gear, etc.The DayZ wiki is a great place to start; however, it isn't really up-to-date yet. It is perfect for the beginner.Your overall goal is to survive! Whether that is helping other people out in the process, killing zombies, or killing Bandits (bad players who kill innocent players). There are official / unofficial servers, public / private, whitelisted, etc. A public server running the same version of game, will share data amongst others. Any other servers will require a brand new player.
tonyuk 3 Posted February 6, 2013 A good thing to do is to use day z commander and filter official servers only, that way you can hop betewwen these servers while keeping all your progress/gear/location in tact. As soon as you start playing on private servers youll start over. If you like a server then favourite it and stick with tthat one.Eventually youll get pissed off with hackers so youll end up on whitelisted servers, which require registering on a forum and giving a few details before theyll let you on.Enjoy your stay in chernaraus, youll die alot to start with but the learning curve is really good fun. Im about a month in playing and want to start teaming up with guys to get cars n all that good stuff. :)p.sGet a headset with a mic.
DazTroyer 227 Posted February 6, 2013 Your in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, you have no food, water or weapon to protect yourself from the zombie horde and bandits that roam the waste lands. What do you do, SURVIVE for as long as possible. (in all reality you'll be dead within the hour but hey, welcome to DayZ.)

Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted February 6, 2013 This is the best part of DayZ. You're lost and confused. The whole point of DayZ is figuring out how to survive, don't take too many shortcuts. Enjoy.

Meeshe 170 Posted February 6, 2013 Dont get frustrated. You'll die a lot at first as you learn the game, controls, etc. Use this forum tons of good info on here. Search out the good threads. This is a really good starting point http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/10051-index-of-helpful-threads/DayZWiki had a ton of good basic info I used when I started playing. Dont look at the maps though. Its not cheating but you rob yourself of a lot of the exploring aspect of the game.DOnt trust anyone until they have given you the reason to trust them. Personally I say be a survivor not a bandit, but thats jsut me. Please dont be that asshat that kills new defenseless Spawns on the coast. That is a griefer not a true bandit.Have fun, :)
Supercuate 9 Posted February 6, 2013 http://dayzdb.com/mapThat site will pretty much get you on your feet. The 1st thing I did was identifying where I was from signs on the edges of the towns I was near, then went straight to the medium value loot points. There you will also find details on items, weapons and vehicles. All you need a click away bro!, have a good time.
