Looting via car

So I've heard that looting too close in cars can cause items not to spawn, but recently I've found that some items have. An (engine part) I discovered prior to driving up to it still appeared, has it been fixed? What's your option on loot not spawning when to close? Personally I think it adds more tension an risk to the game.

If the items have already spawned in than they will still be there, but locations where no loot has spawned won't spawn if you drive up too fast

That may change now, since zombies spawn while in vehicles as of 1.7.5.
