Inability to repair vehicles whilst having a Toolbox.

Recommended Posts

First post!

Okay, I've searched google, and the forums, dozens of times to try and find an answer to this or to see whether more people were having the same problem.

I have managed to fully repair an ATV twice now, but over the past two days I haven't had any luck repairing wheels at all, and yes I have a Toolbox and the required parts. The option DOES show up on the mouse-wheel menu, I click to repair the wheel, the animation plays out and then nothing (even after the 'repair successful' blurb has shown up), no wheel no repair no anything.

There are two specific examples of this that I've had, so I'll list them below.

1.) Military Off-road.

-Mostly Red status vehicle found at Green Mountain (two of them, to be precise)

-Attempted to repair all the wheels, no wheels appeared on the Rover, and they're still red in the drop-down menu.

-Attempted to fix Hull with Scrap metal, this actually worked and it turned Green.

-Attempted to fix Engine/Fuel Lines. Went from red to yellow status, engine can now be turned on.

-Attempted to fix the Engine to green status by using another engine parts, no effect.

-Finally attempted to attach another wheel, no wheels attached (despite having a toolbox, the animation playing, and 'repair successful').

2.) Motorbike.

-Mostly green status with lots of the fuel in the tank. Two wheels missing, and orange engine/Hull.

-Managed to repair one wheel last night successfully (Back Wheel).

-Managed to repair Engine to green status successfully last night.

-Attempted to repair Front Wheel today (about 30 minutes ago), not successful (despite having a toolbox, animation playing, and blurb again).

Any help would be great, I've only been playing for a week (albeit with fervent obsession), and I managed to tip my ATV over for the second time so I'm currently only in possession of a bus, bad times.

Hey Pokey, welcome to DayZ. Fervent obsession - I like that.

Are you server-hopping to find your vehicle parts?

I have had similar issues in the past and have deduced that it could be caused by one of a few things:

  • Using parts from other servers.
  • Spawning in right next to the broken vehicle.
  • Coming from another server very recently and trying to repair.

Now; it could be one, all, or a mixture of these reasons. But I have found that if I source my parts from the same server, then the issue that you described does not occur.

Maybe someone else knows better than I, but I know what works for me.

I've been sticking to the same server all week, so no external parts have been used.

I just tried to repair yet another wheel on the motorcycle, it didn't do anything again, despite having the success message come up (Tire still visibly missing, and still red status on the dropdown). I've been running between Gorka and Altar, so I'm not spawning in near the motorbike (and I was running from NWAF airfield to Green mountain to try and fix the Land Rover).

Starting to get a little tiresome now as it takes a long time to find wheels (I can't believe the wiki when it says it has a 4% spawn rate, I always come across engine parts).

Thanks for the suggestions, though :) .

That's what I was worried about. I have no idea who owns the server or when it's reset. Haven't seen an admin on all week. Ah well, I think I'll leave the motorbike for now and try to repair the second ATV I found.

EDIT: just noticed my Arma2 wasn't on the latest patch (according to Commander). Installing and testing.

Just to update on this topic.

I was finally able to fix up not just one, but a grand total of two vehicles! The Toyota truck and the Land Rover. I had failed again on the motorbike wheel repair, but I jumped back on today and attempted to fix up a few other cars.

Now, it might just have been me being a noob, but I made sure to enter the vehicle first (enter backseat, move to front seat, move to back seat, gear) and I was able to repair without issue. It could have also been because I would regularly disconnect from the server and not enter the vehicle again before trying to repair (I'm a disgusting smoker, and after being murdered whilst AFK, I decided to start logging out when I needed my fix).

As it stands, it all works now as long as I follow the routine above. Thanks to those who helped. :)

Good to hear you have found a solution of sorts.

It is fortunate that DayZ has so many positive points, because it is glitchy as fuck in many other areas!
